Name: Anil Kumar Alla Student Number: 0702187 Task 8 Copy-Right Copyright is a form of protection provided to the authors of “original works” and includes such things as literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual creations, both published and unpublished. Copyright does not protect ideas. It only protects the specific and original expression of the idea. A good example of this is that there are many films and books based on the classic boy meets girl theme in which the girl’s parents disapprove of boy and after many tears, true love finally triumphs. This theme cannot be monopolized, but original works to it can be. The same can be said of all other works.

So what does Copyright afford the owner? Copyright is an exclusive right and gives its creator, or owner if the rights are sold, the sole right to reproduce the copyrighted work, to prepare derivative works, to distribute and sell any copies of the copyrighted work, to perform or display the copyrighted work publicly. In many countries it will also give the creator of the work special privileges to determine how the work is to be displayed. Copyright protection is automatic. The act of creating the work also creates the Copyright. There is no requirement to register for Copyright, although in the US and most other countries it is important to show that copyright is claimed in a particular work. This is easily enough done by clearly marking any original work with the symbol ? followed by the date from which copyright is claimed and the owner of the copyright. Copy-paste culture A lot of students these days don't know what plagiarism is, and when they do, they don't think it's a problem according to the New York Times. The article posted today blames free-for-all internet culture where no information belongs to anybody for the increase in the numbers of students committing plagiarism. DJs do it with music, YouTube does it with video, Tumbler blogs do it with pictures, and dare I say it, blogs do it with written content. Another person’s work or creativity without changing using is called copy and paste. Social Software Social software applications include communication tools and interactive tools. Communication tools typically handle the capturing, storing and presentation of communication, usually written but increasingly including audio and video as well.Interactive tools handle mediated interactions between a pair or group of users. They focus on establishing and maintaining a connection among users, facilitating the mechanics of conversation and talk. Twitter is good for networking research, but it's really not all it's cracked up to be. Lots of spam and followers who never Re-Tweet what you

post. It's more informational then conversational. Linkedin has been great for 2-way dialog.

Advantages of Social software It is free to use social networking sites for personal and business use which is underestimated by many online business owners. One can build trust with customers if one can connect with them on both personal and professional level. Social networking sites are all about sharing information. You have friends; people you know have friends, and so on. This is a common situation that has potential. With the help of a social networking site, you can get in contact with these people if you play your cards right. Disadvantages of Social software For example, you are putting your name, location, gender, age and other information on the internet that you don?t necessarily want other people to know about. As long as people can know who you exactly are, then some can find ways to do you harm. Online scams, identity theft and other cases of harassment is normal on the internet. Many social networking sites apply certain measures to keep these at an absolute minimum. You need to be careful. Social networking is really time consuming. If it may just be a waste of time. Social networking is whether it is for business or personal use. There software for business people that post your links of social networking sites. is not your thing it supposed to be fun, is social networking automatically to dozens
