A The latest fashion in kitchen is the food steamer. All the stores are selling them; everyone wants one. Steaming is one of the simplest and healthiest ways of cooking food. However, that cooking time is usually longer than with other methods. In case you?re thinking of buying a steamer, I've done a survey about the steamers available on the market to help you decide which will suit you best. ●Folding Steamer The simplest and least expensive is the folding stainless-steel (不锈钢)version. Advantages: This is a good, basic design which sits inside a variety of different shapes of pans with the water under it; a ring in the center allows for easy lifting and it's easy to clean. Disadvantages: It only holds small dishes. Also, if you put too much water in the pan, it will boil up through the vegetables and they will be watery. If you put too little water in and let it get dry, you will burn the pan and get strange-smelling vegetables. ●Steaming Pan This is a three-layered black Teflon-coated version with a lid and two double-handled steamers, which sits on the oven ring. The brand I bought is called Nutritious Living. Advantages: This is an excellent steamer, lightweight, easy to clean, and of all the steamers I've tried, this cooks the fastest. Fish and chicken can be cooked on the bottom with rice or vegetables on the top. It's easier to store. Disadvantages: Water can boil away until the pan is dry, but if you make sure you fill the pan up to the suggested level and do not overcook the food, this should not happen. You cannot see the food cooking from the top. It doesn't supply a dish for cooking rice. For serious users of steamers, I recommend having one of each version. If you just want to try it, get the folding stainless-steel type. 21. Why did the author carry out the survey? A. To inform people of different steamers C. To find out a suitable steamer to buy 22. What can we learn about the folding steamer? A. It comes in different kinds of shapes and sizes. C. It is able to clean itself. 23. The Nutritious Liuing steamer A. is more difficult to store C. cooks different foods at the same time . B. provides a dish to cook rice with D. cooks fish and chicken faster than vegetables B. It is designed for large families. D. It is easy to take out. B. To run an advertisement for steamers D. To learn how to cook with steamers

24. According to the author, you should A. use steamers to save cooking time C. do a survey before choosing a steamer B

. B. buy a steamer with dishes supplied D. buy a folding steamer if you want to try

Knowing about yourself means not only that you find out what you are good at and what you like, it also means discovering what you are not good at and what you don?t like. Both help you to see your aim in life. Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed an advanced maths course, they have actually learned a great deal about themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical scientists, and that they should not be good at accounting work. So failing can help a student to lead a much happier life if he or she draws the right conclusion from the failing. They may then decide on their aim and choose the kind of work they would like to do. It is impossible to decide whether or not you like something until you have tried it. If you decide you would like to play the violin, you need to take more than one lesson before you can know whether you have any interest or ability. It is not enough to want to be a great violinist. You also have to like the hard and long training before you become one. If you would enjoy being a great violinist but hate the work, forget it. It?s a good plan to try as many ideas as possible when you are still young, and then you will come to a wise decision. 25. If you say you really know yourself, ______. A. you know what you are good at B. you have got the whole picture of yourself C. you keep in mind your aim in life D. you have less you don?t like than what you like 26. Failing can turn into something good ______. A. if you have aim in life and get the job you wish to have B. if you learn something from it D. if you lead a happier life 27.The example of “playing the violin” in Paragraphs 3 and 4 implies that ______. A. if you don?t like music, don?t practise the violin B. it takes more than one lesson to learn to play the violin C. you can decide only after you have tried. D. you can become a great violinist only after hard and long training. 28.The following are suggested by the writer except ______. A. that people usually make hasty(仓促)decisions B. that the more experiences, the better decision you will have C. testing ideas, comparing and then making the decision D. that you always have enough time before you come to a wise decision C. if your decision is right

C It?s good to make mistakes, and here is why. First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It?s always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve? How can you expand? The simple answer is “You can?t”. Look around you. With very few exceptions, either everything you see in your physical world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new. Another good thing about mistakes is this. When you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn?t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn?t work. Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to success. Why? Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some number of things before you succeeded. Every time you make a mistake you eliminate one of those things and are one step closer. But this all doesn?t mean that you should go ahead without considering the consequences of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn?t work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again. We all have limited resources in the form of time and money so don?t blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize that it probably won?t be perfect the first time and allocate (分配) these resources appropriately so you can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career. There is an old saying that goes, “If you?re not making mistakes, you?re not trying hard enough.” So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper(成功) . 29.From the second paragraph, we can conclude that _______. A. mistakes are unnecessary for development C. it?s common for people to make mistakes A. avoid B. remove B. we are afraid of trying new things D. mistakes are better than not trying C. accept D. solve .

30.The underlined word “eliminate” means _______. 31.According to the article, one thing you should pay attention to about making mistakes is A. avoiding making the same mistakes C. taking consequences into account A. Never mind, I can always try again. B. accepting the punishment willingly D. trying things out one by one B. I?d better stay out of trouble.

32.What would the writer probably suggest we say to ourselves when we make a mistake?

C. Ok! Now I can learn something. upset. D

D. Look at this mess. Anyone would be

Sometimes you may have a strong desire to do something strange or terrible. However, chances are that you don?t act on your impulse (冲动), but let it pass instead. You know that to take the action is wrong in some way and that other people will not accept your behavior. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the phenomenon of taboo behavior is how it can change over the years, how certain behavior and attitudes once considered taboo can become perfectly acceptable and natural at another point in time. Topics such as death, for example, were once considered so upsetting that it was a taboo to even talk about them. Now with the publication of important books such as On Death and Dying and Learning to Say Goodbye, people have become more aware of the importance of expressing feelings about death and, as a result, are more willing to talk about this taboo subject. One of the newest taboos is the topic of fat. Unlike many other taboos, fat is a topic that people talk about constantly. It?s not taboo to talk about fat; it?s taboo to be fat. The “in” look is thin, not fat. In the work world, most companies prefer youthful-looking, slim manager to sell their image as well as their products to the public. The thin look is associated with youth, vigor, and success. The fat person, on the other hand, is thought of as lazy and lacking in energy, self-discipline and self-respect. After all, how can people permit themselves to become fat? In an image-conscious society, thin is ??in”, fat is “out”. It? s not surprising that millions of people have become obsessed (着迷) with staying slim and “in shape”. The pursuit of a youthful physical appearance is not, however, the only reason for people?s obsession with diet and exercise. Recent research has shown the importance of diet and exercise for personal health. As in most technologically developed nations, the life-style of people has changed since last century. Modern machines do all the physical labor. Cars and buses transport us quickly from point to point. As a result of inactivity and disuse, people?s bodies can easily become weak. In an effort to avoid such a fate , millions of people are spending more of their time exercising. Parks are filled with joggers and bicyclists, and many companies are providing special exercise equipment for their employees to use during the work day. 33. What does the word “taboo?? refer to in the passage? A. Behavior considered unacceptable to the society B. An unfavorable impression left on other people. C. A strong desire to do something strange or terrible. D. A crime committed on impulse. 34. According to the passage, the common belief is that _________. A. fat people are full of energy C. fat people prefer to have fat bosses B. thin people are more successful D. thin people are less image-conscious

35. People pay more attention to diet and exercise because of _________. A. their need to kill time C. their concern for health 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,共 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Decorate a Classroom How do you decorate a classroom? 36 A visually rich classroom can be inspiring, welcoming, and supportive of student learning. Think about who you're decorating for. 37 What are their interests? What are they studying? Is there a holiday or special event happening soon? What else comes to mind that will give you ideas for decorating the classroom? Music, food, sports, dance? 38 Will your school allow you and your students to paint on the wall? Are certain areas of the classroom reserved for things like announcements and school notices? Can you use the outside walls of the classroom?(Some teachers use the hallways outside their classrooms for large art projects.) Involve the students. 39 If you can connect classroom assignments with visual projects, done with lots of color and strong graphic design elements, (titles, borders, matting, and composition, for example), then your room will be the envy of all the teachers. Prepare in advance. If it's the beginning of the year, consider painting a section of a wall a neutral color for 'gallery' display. Also,if you can't afford to buy prints, just print out copies of paintings and display them. Consider using a digital camera to take pictures of your students and the community, and put them up. 40 There are numerous online sites with art projects by grade level for the 'art challenged' teacher. A. Do your research online. B. This is a very important topic. C. Find out what wall space is available. D. Use writing activities to help you decorate. E. The best decorating of all is that done by the students themselves. F. See if you can add in any hands-on, decorative activities to your lessons. G. All in all, there is still much room for improvement in food quality and service. Best regards. Sincerely yours, Li Hua
