Fast reading: 1. What is the purpose of the letter? To ask for permission and a donation of $500. 2. Analyze the structure of the letter. Part1:The reason to write the letter. (1) Part2:The plan and how to achieve it. (2- 4) Part3: A summary of the requests.(5)

Speaking : NCFLS What can we do to improve our school environment ?

Discussion
Step 1 List all the things that could be done to improve the school environment.

Useful expressions: step 2 Work in I’d prefer…. groups and I’d rather (not)…. Choose I’d like…. three things I don’t like… from your Which would you lists and prefer…? discuss how Would you rather…? they could be achieved.

Possible plans:
A: plant more trees, grass and flowers in the garden, do not pick the flowers and stamp the grass; B: do not throw litter, pick the rubbish, throw it into a dustbin, collect waste paper and bottles for recycling; C: make our school a non-smoking place; …

Writing
Write a letter to Ms. Wang to ask for permission to improve the school environment. 1 Start the letter with an introductory paragraph that explains why you are writing the letter and gives a general idea of what you want to do. 2 Describe your plan and how you will achieve it. Start a new paragraph for each new detail of your plan. 3 End your letter with a summary of what you want the principal to do.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? Write in detail. Keep the letter polite but persuasive . Try to use subjunctive mood. Be organized and clear. Write an impressive summary. Read it aloud and see if your ears like it. Pay attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation(标点符号).
