he covered quite long distances on foot.Sometimes he got on a bus or even a train, and simply sat there until someone asked for his ticket. Generally the police brought him home. “Why do you do it?” they used to ask.“I just like seeing places,” Johnny told them. Johnny continued to “see places” although everyone tried to stop him.His parents used to watch him closely, and so did his teachers;but sooner or later Johnny managed to slip away.As he grew older, his favorite trick was to hide on a long distance truck.Sometimes he traveled hundreds of miles before anyone discovered him. It is hardly surprising that eventually Johnny managed to board a plane. He was twelve at the time.It was a cargo plane and a few hours later,Johnny found himself in Cairo. How did he get on board? No one knows! According to Johnny himself, it was easy: he just went into the airport, walked along some passages and got on board the nearest plane. In spite of all this,Johnny did well at school. He enjoyed math and languages and, perhaps not surprisingly,he was especially good at geography.“What do you want to be when you grow up?” his teachers asked him.“An explorer!” he answered.“But it’s difficult to become an explorer in this modern age,” they tried to tell him.But it was no use:Johnny knew what he wanted! Just before he left school,Johnny saw a notice in a daily paper.A long journey was about to go to Brazil to travel up the Amazon River. There were jobs for three young people “willing to work hard and with a sense of adventure”.Johnny applied, and two months later,he was on his way to Brazil. 51.Johnny often left home when he was young because ______. A.he enjoyed seeing new places B.no one watched him closely C.he liked to play tricks on others D.he didn’t do well in his studies 52.People around Johnny A.gave him a hand if it was necessary B.tried to stop him from slipping away C.kept following him to get him back D.knew clearly how he got on a plane 53.From the passage,we can learn that A.Johnny hadn’t got a sense of adventure B.Johnny worked for a daily paper after he left school C.Johnny went to Brazil to study geography D.Johnny once went travelling along the Amazon River B The day of my holiday arrived, but I wasn’t looking forward to it. I had little money and had only been able to afford to stay with my aunt Rosa in Spain. So, I wasn’t really excited as I knew exactly what it was going to be like: lots of noisy cousins, and Aunt Rosa begging me to take her for a ride. After I had checked in, I made my way slowly to the departure gate. As I was waiting to board the plane, I kept thinking about my ideal holiday destination: Jamaica, with its long, sandy beaches and crystal clear water. As soon as the plane took off, I fell fast asleep and only woke to the sound of the announcement: “Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts, as we will shortly be landing in Kingston.” I froze in my seat. Was I dreaming? Kingston? Jamaica? I had boarded the wrong plane! Immediately after the plane landed, I explained the situation to the authorities. It seems there were also three other passengers heading for Spain. Apparently it had been the airline’s fault, since the flight numbers for Spain and Jamaica were exactly the same! Therefore, with no flight back to London for a week, the airline had no choice but to pay for our stay. So there I was, lying on the beach, enjoying the music and the marvelous food of Jamaica! As for Aunt Rosa, I suppose she just had to live without me! 54. Why did the writer choose to spend her holiday with her aunt in Spain? A. She missed her cousins very much. B. She couldn’t afford any better trip. C. Her aunt begged her to stay with her. D. Spain was her ideal holiday destination. 55. In the story, the writer ended up _________. A. returning to London immediately B. flying to Spain from Jamaica C. enjoying a free beach holiday D. paying for taking the wrong flight 56. Which of the following might be the best title for the passage? A. A Terrible Adventure B. A Nice Dream C. A Well-Planned Trip D. A Lucky Mistake C

Xing Hui and Hao Hao will be well treated in their new home D. the relationship between China and Belgium will greatly improve D Miss Benson was the kindest and sweetest person that ever walked the earth. She was my second-grade teacher, and I was going to marry her when I grew up. I would sit in my seat for the entire morning. I wouldn’t miss one moment for her presence by leaving the room. My hand was always the first to be raised when Miss Benson called for volunteers to clean the blackboards or gather papers. I would arrange and rearrange the papers. They had to be in perfect order before I went back to my seat unwillingly. Early in the term, I started asking my mother to put an extra apple or peach in my lunch, but I never quite worked up the courage to hand my gift to her directly. Each day the delicacy found its way unobserved to the corner of her desk. And each day the response was the same. ''Why, how nice! '' She would pick up the offering and asked: ''What thoughtful little boy or girl brought me this? '' No one claimed the honor, least of all me. I kept my head down, looking at my desk. ''Can it be that I have a secret admirer?'' she added. I would feel the red rising in my face. I was certain that everyone was looking at me, and I would sigh with relief when Miss Benson put the fruit away and started the lesson. Friday was Miss Benson's birthday. Everyone wanted to get her a present. I would give her something, openly. That afternoon was spent combing the fields for wild flowers. Not many were in bloom at that time of year, but finally I managed a patch of beautiful flowers... In the morning I went to the desk and gave the beautiful flowers to Miss Benson. She accepted them happily and held them to her cheek for a moment. My reward was a smile and a pat on the head. The next Monday, Miss Benson was not in class. About the middle of the morning, I was asked to go
