Teaching Aims


Knowledge objectives 1. To make the Ss master some language knowledge . 2. To understand the main idea of the passage . 3. To learn more about the European Union . Ability objectives 1. Improve students reading ability . 2. Train Ss to comprehend the passage by fast reading . Emotional objectives Learning about the European Union and pay more attention to our own country’s culture and education and so on . Key points How to understand the passage better . Teaching difficult points 1. Comprehend the main idea of the passage . 2. Discuss the differences between the European Union and China . Part 2 . Teaching Methods 1. To show Ss how to study by cooperation . 2. Question – and – answer activity teaching method . 3. Free discussion method . Teaching aids 1. Multi – media . 2. A recorder Part 3 . Teaching procedures

Step 1 . Revision 1. First ask some questions to revise the words and expressions . 2. Let Ss explain the words in English . Step 2 . Pre-reading 1. Show Ss a map of the world . Let Ss point out the positions of Europe and China . 2. Ask some questions : Do you know the European Union ? Where is it ? Is it one country ? Is the United Kingdom its member ? Purpose : make the students learn about some information and arose them interest of study . Step 3 . While – reading 1. Fast reading Read the passage quickly and let them understand the main idea of each paragraph then answer some questions . (1)What is the European Union ? (2)How did it start ? (3)How many countries belong to it now ? Purpose : improve the students’ reading ability . 2. Listening (book closed ) Listen to the tape and finish exercises . ( fill the blanks Purpose : train students listening ability . 3. Careful reading Read the passage carefully again . Discuss some detail questions then finish them . What else do you know about the European Union ? Students add more information about EU. Purpose : further understand the text and develop students’ tense of co-operation . Step 4. Post – reading with some words )

Discuss and compare the European Union with China . Purpose : By discussing and communicating , students can finish most of comparison . If they cannot finish all of the form . they may get through it by referring to .some information about EU . I want students to know the differences of EU and China , make them realize what we should care for and how to develop our country . Step 5 . Homework Write a passage titled information by themselves . “ Comparision of EU and China ” . Purpose : train Ss writing ability and improve the skills of looking up the
