Background information: Students: 50 senior in High school, Grade 1 Duration: 40 mins Type of the lesson: writing Teaching Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to Knowledge aims: 1) Learn to write a thank-you letter. 2) Learn to apologize and express thanks and grateful, and response to them using related expressions. Ability aims: Train students’ imagination and creativity in situation performances. Moral/ emotion aims: learn to express gratitude to other people, especially your parents and the people who love you and help you in your life. Teaching important points: 1) Learn to apologize and express thanks and response to them using related expressions. 2) Train students’ imagination and creativity in situation performances. Teaching Difficulties: 1) Learn to apologize and express thanks and response to them using related expressions. 2) Train students’ imagination and creativity in situation performances.

Teaching Methods: the process approach to writing Teaching aids: video,media Teaching procedures Step I Greeting & Lead in (10mins) Greeting class. Play a short period of a movie---Tang Shan Earthquake 《唐山大地震》 Discuss the movie----the topic should talk around the parent-child relationship. And then tell the Ss should learn to understand their parents. What’s more, learn to feel grateful to their parents. Finally, give them a task to write a letter to their parents. The content can include following: 1) Why they write the letter to their mother or father. 2) Tell them they know they’re sorry for the before bad behavior or wrong thing to them. 3) Tell them whatever they want to say to their parents. 4) Say a sentence to their parents that they think it can tell their feeling about their parents. Step II Learn the example (8mins) Read the thank-you letter in the book (P41) as far as possible and grasp the main idea, and the format of the thank-you letter. Firstly, when we begin a letter, we should put the time on the first line in the right. And the next should put the addressing people(称呼) in the next line.

Paragraph 1: Give thanks to the people for what they did for us. Paragraph 2: Tell the people something about ourselves and the things we’re doing now. Paragraph 3: Ask the people for some details about themselves and what they are doing now. Paragraph 4: Close the letter by repeating our thanks. This is the format for them to follow when writing a thank-letter. Own…to…把……归功于 Encourage sb. to do sth. 鼓励某人做某事 Take/follow one’s advice 接受某人的建议 Give sb. some advice on…就……方面给某人提出一些建议 Make sb. feel depressed 使某人感到失望 Think highly of … 对……高度评价

Be determined to do sth. 决心做某事 Wish sb. sth. 祝愿某人某事 Step IV Free writing (5mins) Ask Ss try to use their words to write a thank-you letter according to the format of thank-you letter. They can write whatever that comes to their minds as quickly as possible on the paper. Step VI Outlining (5mins) Ask Ss to illustrate the main organizing structure and the most important points of the letter. Like the main idea of each paragraph with topic sentences and notes for supporting details. Step VII Writing (8mins) Before they start, remind them to remember the format of thank-letter. Then give Ss time to write their letters in limited time. Step VIII Homework (2mins) a) Ask Ss to exchange their letters and line out their partners’ error after class, and rewrite their letters after that. b) Show a thank-letter to the Ss.(PPT)
