第一节(共 15 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 30 分)

阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项中, 选出可以填人空白处的最佳选 项。 A It’s school time again! You’re probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around (停留)for a little while. Let’s find out more about going to a new school.版权所有 Most teachers kick off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules and school rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not. Please pay close attention. You might already know a lot of people in your classes on the first day, but it’s a great day to make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don’t. Make the first move and you’ll be glad you did, and so will your new friend! Seeing friends you haven’t seen in a while can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers(运动鞋). It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you’ll be needing. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case (以防万一)you don’t have time in the morning. 41:The underlined phrase “kick off” in the second paragraph probably means “_____”. A.study B. start C.find D.teach B.what to know about a new school D. how to spend your first day of school 42:The last paragraphs mainly tell us about ________. B If I asked you to name your favorite teachers from kindergarten through graduate school, it would be easy to answer, wouldn’t it? It would al so be an enjoyable question to answer because it would bring back so many good memories of wonderful people who’ve touched both your personal life and your professional life. You would be thinking about people who not only taught you things of value, but inspired you as well. Quite possibly they inspired you to become a teacher. My classmates and I were asked this question on my first day in the teaching credential program at the University of San Francisco many years ago. I thought of Sister Mary Anne, who taught me in elementary school. I thought of Mrs. Padgett and Mrs. Kofford, English teachers, in high school. I thought of Dr. Lincoln and Dr. Campbell, history professors, who taught me in college. Then came this question, “What do they all have in common? I stood up and said, “They all love what they are doing. They have great enthusiasm for teaching. All of my classmates nodded their heads in agreement. That was apparently the answer Dr. McSweeney expected. He said, “I ask that question every year, and I always get the same answer. He went on to explain that he opened with that question because it got future teachers to think about what separates the great teachers from the not-so-great. He said, “We all remember our favorite teachers - the ones who had passion and enthusiasm, the ones who loved and enjoyed what they were doing. We want each of you to become that kind of teacher. Always remember those special teachers. It’s a statement I never forgot once during my thirty-five years in the classroom. 45. What would be the best title of the passage? A. How to choose a university C. Who were your favorite teachers D. My favorite teacher - Dr. McSweeney 46. According to the passage, an excellent teacher should have A. a sense of humor C. good health question. A. have a lively and interesting lesson C. remember their teachers ones 48. What can we learn about the author? B. become great teachers D. tell great teachers from common B. a wide range of knowledge D. passion and enthusiasm by starting with that . B. My first lesson

Family traditions were important in our house, and none was more appreciated than the perfect Christmas tree. “Dad, can we watch when you trim (修剪) the tree?” My eldest son, Dan, nine, and his seven-year-old brother John, asked. “I won’t be cutting this year,” my husband Bob said. “Dan, you and John are old enough to measure things. Do it all by yourselves. Think you boys can do it?” Dan and John seemed to grow six inches in their chairs at the thought of such an amazing responsibility. “We can do it.” Dan promised. “We won’t let your down.” A few years before Christmas, Dan and John rushed in after school. They gathered the tools they’d need and brought them out to the yard, where the tree waited. I was cooking when I heard the happy sounds as the boys carried the tree into the living room. Then I heard the sound that every mother knows is trouble: dead silence. I hurried out to them. The tree was cut too short. John crossed his arms tight across his chest(胸膛). His eyes filled with angry tears. I felt worried. The tree was central to our holiday. I didn’t want the boys to feel ashamed every time they looked at it. I couldn’t lower the ceiling, and I couldn’t raise the floor either. There was no way to undo the damage done. Suddenly, a thought came to my mind, which turned the problem into the good way.” “We can’t make the tree taller,” I said. “But we can put it on a higher position.” Dan nodded his head sideways. “We could put it on the coffee table, It just might work! Let’s try it!” When Bob got home and looked at the big tree on top of the coffee table, Dan and John held their breath. “What a good idea!” he declared. “Why didn’t I ever think of such a thing?” John broke into a grin. Dan’s chest swelled(膨胀) with pride. 53. Who trimmed the Christmas tree this year? A. The writer A. scared B. Dan and John B. embarrassed C. Bob C. proud D. The whole family D. nervous 54. The underlined part “grow six inches (Para 4) implies the brothers felt _____, 55. How could the short tree be turned into a perfect one? A. By making the tree taller. C. By placing it on a coffee table. B. By lowering the ceiling. D. By raising the floor.
