Prison Break 《越狱》is a huge hit thanks to its great star, Wentworth Miller.
His character, Michael Scofield, is the engine that drives the show. The movie involves two brothers: one has been sentenced to death for a crime, and the other plans to help his brother escape prison. Michael Scofield is one of the most interesting personalities on television today. But what about the man behind the character? Miller, 35, is a hard guy to get known. He does not come from a normal background and has never lived his life in a typical way. Miller didn’t take a direct path to fame and fortune. He graduated from Princeton University in 1995, not with a degree in theatre or film, but in English. He didn’t even act when he was in college. His only performance experience was in his university’s singing group. Yet, at graduation Miller still decided to make the move to Hollywood. Miller has always been different. Although he is American, he was born in Britain when his father was studying there. His family background is also a special mix of cultures. “My father is black and my mother is white. That means I have always been caught in the middle. I could be either one, which can make you feel out of place,” Miller says. Following his unusual path, Miller did not start trying out for films and TV shows
when he first got to Hollywood. Instead, he worked as a lowly production assistant. Not what you would expect from a Princeton graduate. However , it all paid off for Miller in the end. In 2002, Miller played a role in the drama Dinotopia. He starred as a thoughtful and shy man. Producers remembered his performance when they were casting Prison Break two years later. With a golden globe nomination（提名）and another season of
Break on his resume（履历）, Miller seems ready to take over all of Hollywood.

Saint Valentine’s Day has roots in several different legends that have found their way to us through the ages. One of the earliest popular symbols of the day is Cupid（爱神丘比特）, the Roman god of love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow. One legend dates as far back as the days of the Roman Empire, according to the story, Claudius, the Emperor of Rome, wanted to increase the size of the army. He knew that it would be easier to get young man who were not married to join. Therefore he made a rule that no young man could marry until he had served a certain number of years in the army. Valentine, who was an Italian bishop, living in AD 200, broke the rule and secretly married a great many young people that came to him. Finally, Claudius found out Valentine and put him in prison, where he remained until his death on February 14. After his death, Valentine was made a saint, and the day of his death was named Saint Valentine’s Day. Another Valentine, a Christian priest, had been thrown in prison for his teachings. But he was beheaded(斩首) on February 14, because he supposedly cured the jailer’s(狱 卒的) daughter of her blindness. The night before his death, he wrote the jailer’s daughter a farewell letter, signing it “From Your Valentine.” In AD 496 Sain Pope Gelasius I named February 14 as“Valentine's Day”. Although it’s not an official holiday, people across the world observe this day. Whatever the old mixture of origins, Saint Valentine's Day is now a day for sweethearts. It is a day when you show your friend or loved one that you care. You can send candy to someone you think is special. Or you can send roses, the flower of love. Most people send“valentines,”a greeting card named after the notes that Saint Valentine received in jail. Whatever the form may be, the message is almost the same“will you be my Valentine?” 61. 62. Why was Valentine, the Italian bishop, put in prison? A. He secretly got married. B. He didn’t serve in the army. C. He married many young couples secretly. D. He was a saint. 63. Valentine received a letter from the jailer’s daughter before his death. 64. February 14 is chosen as Valentine’s Day because _______. A. lovers express their love on this day B. people want to remember Valentine C. people send one another greetings of many kinds on this day D. people want to fix a date for lovers to express their love 65. What can we infer from the passage? A. Valentine’s Day is an ancient traditional holiday. B. Valentine’s Day has been received by government. C. Valentine’s Day is just a day for lovers. D. Everything can be used as gifts to show your care on Valentine’s Day. D Psychologists （心里学家） at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand are studying the compulsive （强迫的 ） shopping as a behavioral disorder similar to compulsive eating. Compulsive shoppers frequently buy more than they can afford or more than they need, and it causes them distress. “It becomes a problem when you are out of control,”psychology lecturer Neville Blampied said.“When you are feeling bad and blue, what do you do? Some people eat chocolate cake and ice cream. Some people take the credit card and go out to the shop.”Bank managers understand the problem because they have to deal with people who have to be persuaded to stop using their cards drawing money.
Compulsive shopping, known as oniomania（购物癖）, was first discovered in 1915. Few studies have been done on the problem. An advertisement in a Christchurch paper, calling for people to take part in an experimental treatment program designed by Mr. Wilson, attracted 10 replies. But the problem, said Mr. Wilson, is clearly not rare. He thinks that compulsive shopping should be treated with drugs. “As psychologists we are interested in non-drug treatments for behavioral difficulties,”Mr. Wilson said. Compulsive eaters or shoppers get a kick from their habit.“Both activities provide an immediate kind of kick and you feel a bit better,”he said.“You have long-term problems, but human beings are extremely good at not seeing long-term problems and are very sensitive to short-term benefits,”he said. The aim of the treatment was to help people find better ways of managing their emotions. The program, consisting of 10 one-hour weekly lessons and two follow-up treatments, is loosely based on teaching stress management. “You often have to start to get people to recognize their emotions correctly. Not being able to know what you really feel weakens your ability to solve the problems connected with what’s making you feel that way,”Mr. Wilson said. 66. What is this article mostly about? A. Signs of compulsive shopping. B. Studies of compulsive shopping. C. comparison of compulsive shopping and compulsive eating. D. An experimental treatment program designed by Mr. Wilson. 67. The compulsive shoppers will go shopping when A. they have lots of money C. they are feeling sad .
B. they are taking drugs D. they win a prize
68. What does the underlined word“distress”in the first paragraph mean？ A. comfort B. pain C. excitement D. curiosity
69. Which of the following is considered important in treating compulsive shoppers? A. Teaching them to manage their money better. B. Teaching them to understand their emotions.
C. Persuading them not to draw money from the bank. D. Treating them with right drugs. 70. When the writer says that compulsive shoppers get a kick from their habit, he means that they .
A. feel distressed after their wild shopping B. feel better after treatment from psychologists C. are better able to deal with stress problems D. have a feeling of excitement after shopping

However, many people know little else about this wonderful animal. The word cheetah probably comes from a Hindi word spotted animal. It is very similar to other cats but also has some obvious differences. Its body is much leaner than most cats and it has much longer legs. People sometimes make a cheetah a leopard(美洲豹) because they both have spots, but in fact they are very different. A leopard is far heavier and more powerful, but also much slower. The cheetah’s spots cover most of its body except for its stomach
and throat. The cheetah’s tail has spots and these become rings at the end of the tail. An adult cheetah weighs between 35-65 kilograms and is about 80 centimeters high at the shoulder. The cheetah’s head is quite small and the eyes are quite high up. A black line runs from each eye down to its mouth and makes it look a little sad. It has high shoulders that help it to walk so gracefully(优雅地). Cheetahs are very fast but they are not very strong. They are not good fighters and will run away rather than fight another animal to protect their food. If they make a kill, it is sometimes taken away from them by stronger animals such as lions and leopard. These animals will kill their young if they get the chance. The cheetah is not a threat to humans at all. It will not attack humans and prefers to stay away from occupied areas. 71. Where does the word “cheetah” come from? (no more than 6 words) ▲ 72. What differences do cheetahs have from cats? (no more than 9 words) ▲ 73. What do a cheetah and a leopard have in common? (no more than 8 words) ▲
