The old Corbin Municipal Hospital has stood on a hill off of 4th street since 1951. Sometime in the 1980s, Baptist Regional Medical Center opened its doors and the old hospital was left abandoned, falling into disrepair. However, there is evidence of recent activity there. Over the years, its windows have been broken. Its walls have been covered with graffiti（乱画）. Empty bottles and rubbish can be seen lining the floors. But some residents believe this isn?t the only activity taking place at the old hospital. An online search of the hospital brings up accounts of unexplainable occurrences. A YouTube search brings up videos someone searching through the old hospital. The Web site darkdarling.com provides a sound of an unexplained voice supposedly recorded at the hospital faintly（微弱地）whispering “I?m hurting.” Tales of unexplained lights, sounds, voices and screams have been tied to the hospital since it was left abandoned long ago. There are some who believe the hospital has not lived such a lonely existence on the hill and something has made its home in the dark, moldy halls and glass covered floors of the building. Many believe the old hospital to be visited. The Kentucky Communities Economic Opportunity Council purchased the property several years ago and plans to build affordable housing on the site. Soon, the building?s current “residents” will no longer call the Corbin Municipal Hospital home. The destruction of the hospital has given ghost hunters a smaller window to conduct searches of the old hospital in hopes of seeing the unexplainable. Just a couple of weeks ago, Jim Paul, who owns Ellison Funeral Home in Williamsburg, set out to expose the ghost stories. “My kids believe in ghosts, so I went to prove they weren?t there,” he said. 56．What can we learn about the author?s attitude according to the first paragraph? B The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award is given to one sportsman or sportswoman, usually British, every year. The award was first designed by the BBC producer Paul Fox in 1954 and continues to be organised annually by the BBC. The award is voted for by the general public towards the end of the calendar year, and is one of the most famous all-sport awards in British sport. The only people to win the award twice are the boxer Henry Cooper and the Formula One drivers Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill. Both HRH, The Princess Anne, in 1971, and her daughter Zara Phillips, in 2006, have won the award, marking the only time two members of the same family have won the award. However both of these men made much of their careers in the UK. Of the fifty-four awards given since 1954, forty-two of them have been to Englishmen/women, three to Scotsmen/women, three to Welshmen, and one to an Irishman. In 2003, the 50th Anniversary（周年）of the show was marked by a five part series on BBC One called Simply the Best which was presented by Gary Lineker and formed part of a public vote to find the all time Golden Personality. Every change of season, every change of weather, indeed, every hour of the day, produces some changes in the magical colors and shapes of these mountains, and they are regarded by all the good wives, far and near, as perfect barometers（睛雨表）. When the weather is fair, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their outlines on the clear evening sky. However, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a lot of gray vapors about their top points, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up li ke a crown（王冠）of glory. At the foot of these fairy mountains, the voyager may have seen the light smoke rising from a village. It is a little village with great age, having been founded by some of the Dutch colonists 殖 （ 民地）, and there were some of the houses of the native settlers living within a few years, built of small yellow bricks brought from Holland, having latticed windows（格子窗）. the driveway. When I peeked out the window, I saw an unfamiliar car. Thirty minutes passed and the car was still in my driveway. It drove up and down the drive as if aware I was watching. My friend told me to call the police, but I refused. Soon the phone calls started again. I heard noises in the background, but I couldn?t tell what they were. 74 If they did, I didn?t know what I?d do. None of the doors were locked, and I would have no way of protecting myself.
