Part II 语言要点: 1. 节日就是庆祝一年中的重要日子。 Festivals are meant to celebrate important times of year. mean (meant, meant) vt. & vi. 意思是;想要;意味着 mean 的句型归纳: be meant to do sth. 被预定做某事/旨在做某事 be meant (= intended) for 为…而准备的 mean to do sth. 打算做… mean doing sth. 意味着做某事 mean that … 意思是/意味着… mean no harm/don’t mean any harm 无伤害之意 What do you mean by … ? …… 是什么意思?

Fill in the blanks with correct form of the given words: 1) I’m sorry for what I said. I never meant to harm you. (harm) = I’m sorry for what I said. I thought it meant no harm to you. Discuss when they take place. take place vi. 发生;举行 表示“发生”的词组还有: happen, occur, come out, come up, break out, burst out 等等。 【比较】take place/happen/occur/come about/come up/break out/burst out *以上都可指“发生” ,都作不及物动词,因此不能用被动语态。 *take place 指一般事情的发生,也可指某活动的举行。 *happen 也可指一般事情的发生,与动词不定式连用是表示“碰巧做…” 。 *occur 尤指事故或意外的事发生。 *come about/come up 多指事情发生的原因不太清楚,常与 how 连用。 *break out/burst out 多指灾难、战争等不幸的事突然发生。 Fill in the blanks with the above words: 1) A funny thing happened in the office today. For the Japanese festival Obon, people should go to clean graves and light incense in memory of their ancestors. a) clean graves 扫墓,一般不能说 sweep graves。 b) light incense 烧香,不能说 burn incense。 c) in memory of = to the memory of (为了)纪念/追念… 【比较】in memory of/in honour of *in honour of 除了表示“为了纪念…” ,还可以表示“向…表示敬意” ,而 in memory of 只能表示
