like travelling? Many people choose backpacking( 背 着背包徒步旅 行)because it not only helps save a lot of money, but also gives them another kind of experience. But do you know what should you do before you begin your backpacking? When you are planning a backpacking adventure, the first thing to do in your opinion may be the decision on the places where you will visit. However, it is not the most important thing. Great adventures will make you face great danger. Why? Often backpacking is an adventure, and you will visit strange places that you have never been to. Think about what might happen while you are travelling. Nobody knows what will happen during the trip. So you should not only imagine the enjoyment you will have on the trip, but also think about the possible danger you might face. Making travel insurance(保险)is the most crucial. It can make sure that you stay safe on the trip. So you should buy a backpacker travel insurance policy( 保 险 单 )before you leave. Backpacker policies are specially designed to meet your needs, by offering a high level of cover for a long time of travel. You can buy a backpacker policy from one week to two years or longer time. The backpacker insurance policy covers many activities such as swim and ski, and provides protection for these activities. So buying a backpacker travel insurance policy is very important. It is a good idea to compare a few insurance companies before you make a decision. You should always carefully check the backpacker policy and make sure the activities you want to do are all covered by the policy.

B One of the most difficult things for children to deal with when moving to a new town is leaving their friends and making new ones. We once moved and one of our new neighbors told us about a summer camp at the Recreation Center all the kids went to. My husband and I looked into it and we found it was unbelievably cheap. I had the kids sign up (报名) the next day so that they could know more kids there. Another thing we did was to have them sign up for sports when school started. They were happy to be on teams with new friends they made. This also gave me a chance to meet new people and from them I sometimes got some useful ideas for my new books. If you’re just moving to a new house in the same city you live in now, it won’t really be a problem unless your kids are changing schools. If they are, it is a great idea to have them take the address book to school. Thus, your children won’t feel “lost”
without their old friends. If you’re able to, over the summer vacation, try inviting the friend your child misses most to come and visit your new home for a week, or even a few weeks. I know this can be difficult if that child has to fly, but maybe you can work out a plan with the child’s parents. Think how happy the kids will be when they meet! 24. The author had her kids sign up for the summer camp mainly because _____. A. she could afford the cost B. she was asked to do so by her kids C. it could make the summer holiday not so boring D. it could give her kids a chance to meet more kids 25.What is probably the author? A. A housewife. B. A writer. C. A teacher. D. A business woman.
26.The purpose of the passage is to teach parents how to ______ when they move to a new place. A. get used to the new life in a short time B. help their children make new friends and keep the old ones C. get along with their new neighbors D. help their children get used to the new school life 27. What we can’t learn from the passage is that ____. A parents should ask their children not to think of their old friends B. having the kids take part in sports is good for both the author and her kids C. a summer camp at the Recreation Center was very cheap D. parents should create more chances for children to make new friends
C Every English learner hopes to find a patient native speaker who will politely correct mistakes and teach him some useful new vocabulary. But native speakers can be hard to find. If you’re having trouble communicating in English, American situation comedies are one good way to help. They can not only give you a lot of information about American culture, but also
offer some useful daily expressions. Watching them will help you enlarge your vocabulary and teach you correct language usage in different situations. Best of all, situation comedies are a fun way to learn. The Apprentice The American reality (现实) TV show is hosted by the famous businessman Donald Trump. It’s based on the idea of the final job interview for the final job. The show picks 16 people to compete for a job with Trump’s business. Those who fail their weekly tasks have to meet with Trump. They have to explain why they should not be fired (解雇). The Apprentice is useful for English students who want to learn how to make up a persuasive (令人信服的) argument. For example, rather than say “I think I did a good job”, one may also learn to throw off the possibility of uncertainty by saying, “I did a good job.” Desperate Housewives (DH) Desperate Housewives is set in an invented American town, Wisteria Lane. It follows a group of middle-aged women as they go through their daily family lives. But in fact, those women live a life of lies, secrets, criminal (犯罪的) acts, and mystery. This program is good at expressing the funny life of American neighbors. And, it’s the perfect comedy series for foreign learners wanting to see how to hold a relaxed daily conversation. Another reason for watching DH is to learn some expressions American families use that are not in your English language textbooks. For example, the mothers often use words such as “sport” and “you guys” to speak about their kids. 28:According to the passage, The Apprentice and DH are introduced because _____. A．they are now the most popular programs B．they are enjoyed by most young people C．they are advertised for English beginners D．they are helpful in English learning 29:Through watching the two American comedy series, English learners can do the following EXCEPT _____.
A．pick up English daily expressions B．know about American culture C．communicate with native speakers D．learn more English words 30 We can learn from the passage that The Apprentice _____. A．tells a story of school life B．is about real life C．has 15 actors D．is about some businessmen 31:Which of the following statements about DH can we get from the introduction? A．The story happens in a village of America. B．The housewives join in the same job interview. C．It does well in describing an interesting neighborhood in America. D．The women in the American town lead a life full of sadness.
D I had just picked up my new car, a very beautiful automobile if you’re into cars. A few months later, I was involved in an accident. That new and very beautiful car was destroyed. The accident was clearly not my fault. The other guy was so busy on his cell phone that he went right through a red light and slammed into the passenger side of my car. It was even scarier because my niece was asleep on the back seat and her father, my brother, was in the front passenger seat. He was not happy, to say the least. The police arrived and began taking statements. I explained that I had been going at about 55km. “So you were going about 50km…” he said. “No, I said I was doing about 55km,” I said. “Right, so you were doing about 50km…” again he repeated. In a slightly annoyed tone because I felt I wasn’t being heard, I said: “No! I was doing about 55km!” “OK, if that’s the way you want it,” this time the officer simply replied. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was shooting myself in the foot. My insurance company paid me for the damages to my car. However, I totally missed the boat on the
other driver’s insurance company. The city speed limit is 50km. I ended up getting 50 percent less than I would have from the other guy’s insurance company because I had insisted I was doing 55km. It suddenly struck me that the traffic policeman had been trying to help me out. He hadn’t minded about the 5km; he had known something about the insurance that I had not. I thought about what had happened again. I might have carried on insisting that I told the truth, but I could at least have said “Thank you” to him instead of acting so rudely. After all, he had been trying to help me out. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to let other people talk while you simply shut up and listen. Never forget – to hear, you have to be able to listen. 32. Which of the following is TRUE about the car accident the author had? A. The author’s car was not seriously broken. B. The author’s niece was injured in the accident. C. The author was not to blame for the accident. D. The author didn’t get my money from the insurance company. 33. When the author insisted his speed was 55 kmph, the policeman______ A. Was confused at first and then got slightly annoyed B. Tried to help him out all the time C. Didn’t listen and wrote down 50kmph D. Ignored the author at first, then finally gave in to him 34. How did the author feel when he found out what the policeman had intended? A. He regretted not listening to the policeman because he had had to pay more B. He regretted being rude to the policeman C. He was proud that he had insisted on telling the truth D. He appreciated what the policeman had done and felt lucky to have met him 35. What message does the story convey(传达)？ A. Honesty is the best policy B. We should appreciate those who help us C. It is important to be willing to listen to people
