第三部分:阅读理解(共 10 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 20 分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出最佳选项。

A Why should we have good table manners? They make eating more pleasant. None of us, for example, really want to watch another person chew food with his or her mouth open. So here are a few easy rules to get you through any meal without displeasing your table mates. 1. Put your napkin in your lap as soon as you sit down and leave it beside your plate when you have finished eating. 2. Sit up straight. It will help you digest your food, and it’s polite. 3. When you are a guest, take a small portion(部分) of everything that is served. Your parents may not expect you to eat something you don’t like, but others will expect you to take a small portion. No one will say anything if you don’t finish it. 4. Use your napkin on your mouth after eating solid food and before drinking liquids. 5. Say “Please” and “Thank you” when asking someone to pass you something. Pass food without delay to others. 6. Don’t chew food with your mouth open. This also means not talking with your mouth full. 7. Don’t announce that you hate a certain food. Someone worked hard to prepare it and won’t appreciate hearing this. 8. Don’t wave your eating utensils(用具) around when you are eating or are resting between bites. Put them on your plate.

9. Cut food into small pieces, one piece at a time. Only babies have their food cut up at once—and their parents only do that to save time. 10. Ask to be excused when you are ready to leave the table. 56. When you have finished eating, ______. A. you should say goodbye to others B. you should put the napkin beside your plate C. you should say sorry D. you can go home immediately 57. If you are invited to dinner, ______. A. you should eat your favorite food only B. you had better taste every kind of the food C. you should listen to your parents D. you can sit as you like 58. According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Before drinking liquids, you should use your napkin on your mouth.

B. It’s bad manners to hold your bowl or glass in your hand and shake them. C. You should pass something to others before you ask them to pass you what you need.

D. You shouldn’t cut your food into small pieces all at once unless you are a very little child.

B

When people become good at doing the things they like to do, they have found themselves. Many young people are good at doing things they do not like; many other young people would like to do something that they are not good at. Also many do not think they are good at anything and do not know what they would like to do. None of them are happy. It is impossible to decide whether one likes something until one has tried it. Trying something new is important. Give each idea a fair chance. If you have decided to try out something new, and also decided how long you will stick to it, you can make a fair decision. The best thing to judge is not the final goal but the work which takes you to reach the goal.

Almost everybody would like to be highly skilled in something, but becoming highly skilled in anything calls for a great deal of time and work. Finding oneself means not only discovering what one is good at and what one likes; it also means discovering what one is not good at and what one does not like. So trying something and failing can have its good side. It tells you that you are not fit for that particular aim and should not use it as your goal. 59. What does the underlined word “fair” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Equal. B. Wrong. C. Right. D. Quick.

60. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE ? A. Becoming skilled in something is quite easy. B. If someone finds himself, he knows his strong points C. People can decide whether they like something D. Failure is always bad for people. 61. What’s the best title for the passage? A. Find oneself C. Interest is important B. Failure is a good thing D. Seize every chance and weak points.

before they try it.

C “Mabel, Mabel, strong and able, keep your elbows(肘) off the table”. I was only 3 or 4 years old when my mom taught me this little rhyme(押韵诗). She taught it to teach me polite table manners. I wish learning table manners as an adult were that easy. However, each country has its own table manners and keeping track of them can give you a headache. For example, knowing how much food to eat can be tricky(复杂的). In China I quickly learned that if I finished all the food, more would be served. It is polite to leave a bit of food on the serving dishes. In Finland, however, your host would be troubled if you left any food on your plate. If you’re in America and you do want more food, don’t reach across the table for it. That would be considered uncivilized(没有教养的). Instead you need to ask someone to pass you the dish.

What would you do if you walked into a restaurant and all the tables were full? In Germany or China, you might share a table with strangers. People in America, however, prefer more personal space. They may think you strange if you sit at their table. And after your meal, should you leave a tip? In some countries a tip is included in the meal price. In America, you need to leave extra money on the table to thank your server for a job well done. Before you travel to a new country, be sure to pick up a good book on culture and customs. Take time to watch how the local people act and imitate them. Keeping track of table manners may not be as easy as learning a childhood rhyme, but it’s certainly worth the trouble. After all, no one wants to be embarrassed at the dinner table! 62. Which of the following countries is NOT mentioned in the passage? A. China. B. Finland. C. Germany. D. Japan.

63. In America, you should ______. A. ask someone to pass you the dish if you want more food B. share a table with strangers C. leave extra money on the table as a tip D. Both A and C. 64. What does the underlined word “imitate” probably mean? A. To look at someone or something for a long time and not move your eyes.

B. To copy the way someone or something looks, sounds or behaves. C. To make jokes about. D. To put something down. 65. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true? A. A tip is needed in some countries. B. It’s easy to follow table manners in different countries. C. Each country has its own table manners. D. You’d better eat all the food on your plate in Finland.
