Coral reefs(珊瑚礁)are not just beautiful to look at，but also very useful. They shelter nearly 25％ of ocean life and provide food for billions of people. However, like many other
species，this amazing ecosystem(生态系统)is in danger of dying out! There are two main reasons for the destruction—the rising carbon dioxide levels caused by global warming as well as human influences like bottom operation. While not much can be done about the former，the loss caused by the latter can be reduced. Bottom operation involves dropping nets to the ocean bed and then dragging them up when filled with fish. This action damaged the ocean floor，causing the coral branches to separate from the reefs. While that is very discouraging， the good news is that if these branches are found quickly，they can be saved. At present，that work is being performed by volunteer divers. But the method has only limited success because they cannot stay long underwater, nor reach depths of over 200 meters where some of the deep-sea coral grows. However，this is not the case for Coralbots—----the robots that can constantly seek out broken branches. A team of ?coralbots? will piece together damaged bits of coral, allowing them to regrow. They are programmed to be able to distinguish(区分) between other things and the coral. The robots work together in groups，similar to bees. If one coralbot is damaged then the others will still be able to complete the task. Dr Lea-Anne Henry said：“The project of using coralbots offers us the possibility to restore(修复)the function of reefs. It is in the final stage of testing. Once ready, the researchers hope to build hundreds of them and use them effectively in the waters off Scotland and then hopefully in the oceans across the world.” 28. Which of the following is a cause of the danger that coral reefs are facing? A. Human activities like bottom operation. B. The seriously polluted sea water. C. The activities of volunteer divers. D. The appearance of new creatures. 29. Compared with volunteer divers，coralbots ______________. A. can never be damaged B. must work as bees do C. can distinguish what is coral D. can stay longer underwater 30. The underlined word “them” in the last paragraph refers to ______________. A. Broken branches B. Coralbots C. Working bees D. Bits of coral 31. We can infer from the passage that _______________. A. broken branches of coral can regrow if saved in time B. bottom operation has affected most underwater creatures C. hundreds of the coralbots have worked well in the oceans D. with the coralbots all damaged coral reefs can be restored
“Drink your milk. It?s good for you!” You?ve probably heard that many times, and it?s true. Milk contains calcium, which is a necessary nutrient for keeping bones and teeth healthy and strong. The U.S. government even requires milk as part of the National School Lunch Program, saying that students should drink one cup of fat-free or low-fat milk at each meal. Last Thursday, however, a group of doctors asked the government to remove milk from the lunch program. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine （PCRM） says, “Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein, all of which have negative effects on health.” “One of the only reasons people talk about dairy,
or promote it, is that it is going to help build strong bones.” says Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM. There are better and healthier ways to get calcium such as eating beans, broccoli, cereals and tofu. Orange juice and soymilk that have calcium added to them also supply the nutrient. Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but your genes, how much vitamin you take in and getting an hour?s worth of exercise every day all play a part. Some nutritionists disagree with the idea that milk isn?t important. Keri Gans, a dietitian, says, “I think it?s irresponsible to take away milk that children enjoy, especially among those who are unable to meet their nutrient needs for the day, and remove it from the lunch line.” The U.S. government is studying the request of the PCRM, but a decision may be a long way off. Meanwhile, Marion Nestle, a professor at New York University, puts it best: “Milk has nutrients. Other foods have the same nutrients. It?s just a food. Like other foods, too much might be a problem.” 32．Why does the US government ask students to drink one cup of milk at lunch time? A．They have been told many times. B．They have taken the PCRM?s advice. C．Milk helps build students? strong bones. D．Fat-free or low-fat milk is less expensive. 33．Which of the following opinions does the PCRM support? A．Students should drink more milk each day. B． Milk is harmful to students? health. C．Orange juice is higher in calcium than milk. D．Milk is the best way to get calcium. 34．What can we learn from Marion Nestle?s words? A．Milk has more nutrients than other food. B．Too much nutrient lies in other food. C．Other food also contains much calcium. D．Milk is just a kind of common food. 35．What does the above text mainly talk about? A．The best way to get the most calcium. B．The connection between milk and health. C．Different opinions about the importance of milk. D．Whether to take milk off the school-lunch menu. 第二节（共 5 小题；每小题 3 分，满分 15 分） 根据短文内容，从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项 为多余选项。 Seven ways to find out what you really want in life
Be good to yourself You can?t pinpoint(准确指出) exactly what you want in life .You?re constantly sacrificing（牺 牲） your time and dreams for other people. 36 Ask yourself: if you weren?t tied down by your job, family, or anything else, then what would you be doing right now? Regret nothing
To be good to yourself is not selfish. It?s your life. It?s time for you to live it exactly the way you want to. If you constantly regret things you did or didn?t do in the past, then you won?t be able to move forward. 37 Figure out what you need Sometimes it?s hard to figure out what you need. Sit down and think about what you need most. The freedom to express yourself? Love? Financial security? Something else? If it helps, you can make a list. Also think about the kind of legacy(遗产) you want to leave behind. 38 You can fly only by pushing back against something you don?t want. Figure out what upsets you, and be specific about it. Don?t just say that you hate your office job. Pinpoint exactly why you hate it. Could it be your strict boss? Your workload? Your meaningless job title? Or all of the above? Determine what makes you truly happy There?s no life to waste if you?re happy with living it. Think about what makes you h appy. Being around children? Is it traveling? Owning a successful business? Financial freedom? 39 Let people around you know what you’re trying to achieve Don?t keep your goals and desires to yourself. Voice it all out! If you tell people what you?re trying to accomplish, they will most likely support you and give you new ideas. Sometimes mother does know best! Stay positive Life doesn?t always go how you want it. Don?t feel discouraged as your plans stray( 偏离). Take control. Instead of being anxious, try your best to advance with the changes. You will get there someday. 40 You?re just taking a little detour. A. Don?t live in the past but live in the present! B. Sometimes a positive attitude is all you need to keep going. C. Determine what really bothers you. D. Once you pinpoint the one thing that makes you happy the most, you?ll have a pretty clear idea of what you should struggle hard to get in your life. E. You have to put yourself first, because if you don?t, then no one else will. F. Determine what you are going to do next. G. You should think of things carefully.

Dear Mr. Smith, I’m writing on behalf of my class to express our warm welcome to you. Here are some of our expectations for your English class. First, we’d like to have topics in class about Western culture. We are all very interested in knowing more about the culture behind the language. Besides, we’d appreciate various activities to get everyone involved and to make classes interesting.
