The functional sentences often used to describe people’s activities during Chinese and foreign festivals. Which festival does the picture show? What do people do during this festival? I. Show the students the picture on Page 99 of Unit 10, ask them to look at the picture and discuss: 1. What are the people doing? 2. Which festival does the picture show? II. Introduce the key themes to the students. III. Ask the students to listen to the four sentences and match the key words in the sentences with the pictures in Activity ①, Warming up. Warming up Present the key sentences on the slide and explain their meanings. IV. Ask the students to look at the four pictures in Activity②, and then match the words about Chinese and foreign festivals with the pictures. V. Pair Work. Ask the students to ask and answer questions about festivals. Eg: 1. Which country celebrates the festival? 2. What are people doing on the festival?

I. Ask the students to try reading aloud the words in the word box on Page 101. Then ask them to read them after the tape. II. Show the students the pictures about two festivals. Tell them that they are going to listen to a short dialogue about Lantern Festival and Halloween. Ask the students to answer the following questions: 1. How do you celebrate the Lantern Festival in China? 2. Does the US have the similar festival? If yes, what is it? Give them some advice on listening skills. III. Play the tape twice and ask the students to practice it after the tape. IV. Present the basic sentence structures on the blackboard: How do you celebrate the...? We celebrate it with ... V. Ask the students to listen to the dialogue again. And then ask them to form into groups and make dialogues with the given phrases and pictures in activity ? on page 101. VI. Ask some students to act out the dialogue in pairs in front of the class. I. Ask the students to look at the picture on Page 102, and then listen to the dialogue in Activity ④. Ask them to match the pictures with the sentences in the blue boxes. II. Present the three sentences on the screen and explain their meanings. III. Ask the students to read the sentences individually and then think about what other things they often before Christmas. IV. Ask the students to talk with their partners. V. Ask the students to think about what festival in China is similar with Christmas in Western countries. And then talk with their partner about what they do before or while the festival. VI. Ask the students to listen to the song in Activity ⑤ and ask them to sing after the tape. Then ask them to sing the song together. I. Present pictures about Lantern Festival, Halloween and Christmas, and ask the students to ask some questions about the activities people do during these festivals. II. Ask the students to introduce these festival activities individually. 第三课时 教学步骤 教学过程设计 I. Ask the students to look at the photos about“festivals”and discuss the following question: Who do you usually eat on the festival? II. Introduce the learning content to the students: Tell them that they are going to read a short passage about festival. I. Present some new words on the slide. Tell the students their meanings and pronunciations. II. Present the following questions and the picture of turkey on page 103, and then ask the students to predict: What festival is it? What do people usually do on this festival? I. Ask the students to skim the passage on Page 103, and try to answer the above questions. Give the students some advice about reading skills. II. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after the tape and underline the important phrases about Thanksgiving Day. Explain the meanings of these phrases to them. III. Ask the students to read the table in Activity ②, and then ask them to fill in the table according to the passage. IV. Ask the students to check their answers in pairs and then check their work in the whole class. I. Ask the students to read the passage on Page 104, and then answer the following two questions: When is the Spring Festival? What do people do during Spring Festival? Reading II. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it and underline the important practice (2) words and phrases about Spring Festival activities. Explain their meanings to the students. III. Ask the students to read the passage again individually and then check what they do during Spring Festival (Activity ④ on page 104). I. Ask the students to look at the pictures and guess what festival they are about. II. Ask the students to read the passage on Page 105, and then answer the following questions: When is the festival? What activities do children do on Halloween? III. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it. IV. Ask the students to read the passage individually. V. Ask the students to talk with their partners and write down the date of the festivals. VI. Check their answers in the whole class.

I. Ask the students to read the letter about Terry’s April Fool’s Day plan and count how many tricks he wants to play on the day. 2. Ask the students to report their answers. 3. Ask the students to work in groups to talk about their own April Fool’s Day plan. 4. Ask the students to write a letter to Terry. 5. Ask the students to check their letters in pairs. 6. Show some of their letters in the whole class. I. Ask the students to take part in a competition. Ask them to make a list of the festivals they know.
