only one train a day back to my home in Sydney had already left. So I th ought I’d hitch a ride (搭便车). I waited by the side of the highway for three hours but no one stopped for me. Finally, a man walked over and introduced himself as Gordon. He said that although he couldn’t give me a lift, I should come back to his house for lunch. He noticed me standing for hours in the November heat and thought I must be hungry. I was doubtful as a young girl but he assured (使…放心)me I was safe, and he also offered to help me find a lift home afterwards. When we arrived at his house, he made us sandwiches. After lunch, he helped me find a lift home. Twenty-five years later, in 2003, while I was driving to a nearby town one day, I saw an elderly man standing in the glaring heat, trying to hitch a ride. I thought it was another chance to repay someone for the favour I’d been given decades earlier. I pulled over and picked him up. I made him comfortable on the back seat and offered him some water. After a few moments of small talk, the man said to me, “You haven’t changed a bit, even your red hair is still the same.” I couldn’t remember where I’d met him. He then told me he was the man who had given me lunch and helped me find a lift all those years ago. It was Gordon. 21. The author had to hitch a ride one day in 1978 because . was really unbearable. I started calling the dentists in the phone book, but no one could see me immediately. Finally, at about lunchtime, I got lucky. “If you come by right now,” the receptionist said, “the dentist will fit you in.” I look my purse and keys and rushed to my car. But suddenly I began to doubt about the dentist. What kind of dentist would be so eager to treat someone at such short notice? Why wasn’t he as busy as the others? In the dentist’s office, I sat down and looked around. I saw nothing but the bare walls and I became even more worried. The assistant noticed my nervousness and placed her warm hand over my ice-cold one. When I told her my fears, she laughed and said ,“Don’t worry. The dentist is very good.” “How long do I have to wait for him?”I asked impatiently. “Come on, he is coming. Just lie down and relax. And enjoy the artwork, ”the assistant said. “The artwork?” I was puzzled. The chair went back, suddenly I smiled. There was a beautiful picture, right where I could enjoy it :on the ceiling(天花板). How considerate the dentist was !At that moment, I began to understand what my friend meant by her words. What a relief! 25. Which of the following best describes the author’s feeling that morning? Old age may not sound exciting. But recent findings offer good news for older people and for people worried about getting older. Researchers found that people become happier and experience less worry after they reach the age of fifty. In fact, they say by the age of eighty-five, people are happier with their life than they were when they were eighteen years old. The findings came from a survey of more than three hundred forty thousand adults in the United States. The Gallup Organization questioned them by telephone in two thousand eight. At that time, the people were between the ages of eighteen and eighty-five. The researchers asked questions about emotions like happiness, sadness and worry. They also asked about mental or emotional stress. Arthur Stone in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of twenty-two and twenty-five. The findings showed that stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their fifties. Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early seventies. The people least likely to report feeling negative emotions were those in their seventies and eighties. The study also showed that men and women have similar emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men. Researchers say they do not know why happiness increases as people get older. One theory is that, as people grow older, they grow more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences. The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect the levels of happiness. 29 Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A.A new great finding. B.The old, are you happy C.The older, the happier. D.Smile to getting older.

30. According to the passage, the following can explain why people get happier as they grow older EXCEPT A.they are satisfied with what they have B.they can control their emotions better C.they always think about good things D.they needn’t worry about the house 31.From the passage we know the real happiest people are ? A.teenagers B.those at the age of 25 C.those in their fifties. D.those in their early seventies

Many people fail to do this and wonder why they cannot concentrate(集中). After a couple of times of studying the right way, most people will be surprised at how much they can actually enjoy studying. Read on to learn how to create a good study environment. Know concentration is key. Reduce every possible distraction (分心) . Turn off the television and go in an area where you will not be interrupted by people. If you are studying on your computer—don't get distracted by emails。 Know concentration is key. If it is too dim, your eyes will be injured and leave you tired and you will want to close your eyes. Sun is a light that naturally wakes you up and helps you think. Choose a comfortable seat. It should have a good back support and a good seat. Now a couch can work just fine for this as long as you don't find yourself laying flat after a few minutes. The whole point of studying is to be able to concentrate on the study matter. Turn on some music. Now this is for the person who needs the background noise. If you find yourself thinking about the song then maybe silence is better for you.
