A If you're feeling anxious about the changes that will come your way, here are a few things you can do to welcome in the New Year with a sense of peace and calm. Write a letter to yourself, and have it come from your Higher Self. Go through what happened this year, and let your wiser self give you advice. Write a letter to anyone who you feel incomplete with and need closure. Don't send it. Write it for yourself and for your healing. Say exactly what needs to be said, and don't hold back. Give yourself the gift of forgiving someone who hurt y ou this year. You can do this in person, over the phone
or quietly in your own space. Include yourself in this exercise. What mistake, regret or action do you need to forgive yourself for this year? Accept your family exactly the way they are. Have no expectations that they will be different this time around, whether it's during the holidays or through the next year. Do not expect them to understand you or any choices/decisions you've made or are planning to make. Figure out the few things you can do to reenergize yourself, since you will probably need to turn to these things in the coming year. Does walking in nature get you energ ized? Does working out get your engines running? Is it sleeping in? Prayer? Meditation? Writing? Be clear about what you need more of to continue on your path. What's the top excuse that gets in your way? Write it down and make friends with it. Ask yourself: Is this really true? Who would you be and what would you do without this excuse?

Finding out your top excuse that is in your way 53.The author probably thinks that . A. Having some excuses can help you get along well in the new year B. It's important to forgive not only the person who hurt you but also yourself C. It is unnecessary to be clear about the things you can do to get yourself energized D. To feel good in the new year, you have to forgive yourself for all your mistakes and regrets 54. It can be inferred from the passage that . A. it's necessary to change your wife's dressing style B. it's no use trying to change your husband's personality C. it's unnecessary for you to make a holiday plan for the family D. it's natural for your children to support every decision you make B When an ant dies, other ants take it out of the nest, often within an hour after its death. This behavior interests scientists and they wonder how ants know for sure—and so soon—that another ant is dead. One scientist recently came up with a way to explain this ant behaviour. Dong-Hwan Choe is a biologist, a scientist who studies animals and plants. He found that ants have a chemical on the outside of their bodies that signals to other ants, “I'm dead—take me away” when it is dead. But there's a question to answer: As we know, if an ant is dead, it stops moving. But when an ant is sleeping or knocked unconscious, it is also not moving. However, other ants don't move the living ant out of the nest. How do they know this ant is not dead? Choe found that ants have another chemical on their bodies, which tells nearby ants something like , “Wait—I'm not dead yet”when it is not dead. Choe suspects that when an ant dies, the chemical that says, “Wait I'm not dead yet” quickly goes away. When other ants detect the “dead” chemical without the “not .
dead yet”chemical, they move away the body. To test his theory , Choe and his team put different chemicals on ants. When the scientists used the “I'm dead” chemical, other ants quickly moved the treated ant away. When the scientists used the“Wait—I'm not dead yet” chemical, other ants left the treated ant alone. Choe believes this behavior shows that the“not dead yet”chemical overrides (超越) the dead” chemical when picked up by other ants. And that when an ant dies, the “not dead yet” “ chemical fades away. Other nearby ants then detect the remaining“dead”chemical and remove the body from the nest. Understanding this behavior can help scientists figure out how to stop ants from invading new places and causing problems. 55. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. Introducing the background of the passage. B. Showing the main idea of the passage. C. Leading the following paragraphs. D. Giving a summary of the passage. 56. From the passage we learn that Choe . A. has a great interest in the ways ants communicate with each other B. was the first to observe the ant removal behaviour C. built his theory with other biologists D. did more than one experiment on ants 57. What can we learn from the passage? A. When an ant dies, it can tell others using a certain chemical. B. Living ants can also be taken away when they are not moving. C. A living ant can pretend to be dead using a special chemical. D. Ants often use chemicals to communicate with each other. 58. What is mainly discussed in the passage? A. How to decide whether an ant is dead or not. B. Why ants have special chemicals on their bodies. C. Reasons for the removal behavior of ants. D. How ants manage to keep their nests clean. C YES, it's another fish cartoon and no, it's nothing like the 2003 Hollywood hit Finding Nemo” Shark Tale” “ “ . , the latest animated film from Dream Works, opened last weekend and swam straight to the top of the US box office. The movie tells a funny tale of a little fish who thinks he's a nobody but wants to be a somebody. Fans of “Shrek”will love this film even more for the clever jokes that children and parents can enjoy on different levels. “Shark Tale”follows the life of small fish Oscar (voice by US actor Will Smith). Oscar dreams of bigger and better things, but is bored by his life of cleaning whales at the local whale wash. One day, a shark (voice by US actor Robert De Niro) who is the son of the boss of a crime family is killed by a dropped anchor. When Oscar is found at the scene of the crime he is mistaken for killing the shark. Known in the fish community as“The Shark Slayer”, Oscar becomes a hero, and two female fish begin to
compete for his love. They are the sexy Loca (voice by US actress Angelina Jolie) and the loyal Angie(voice by US actress Renee Zellweger), who has swum by his side for him. Will Smith puts in a memorable performance by playing a sharp-witted, fast-talking street fish. Throwing in some of his well-known humour, Oscar, the fast-talking little fish, makes for a great main character. Taking place in an underwater New York City, there are billboards, traffic jams and Indian taxi drivers. The film creates a whole underwater culture and while nothing is very realistic, there is a stimulating and carefree attitude about the film. “Shark Tale” is pure fun. It isn't as deep or meaningful as “Finding Nemo”, but the sharp jokes and light-hearted dialogue make it a comedy that people can appreciate. 59. The main purpose of the passage is to .
A. give a brief introduction of the cartoon film“Shark Tale” B. make a comparison between“Finding Nemo”and“Shark Tale” C. make comments on the performance of the actors in“Shark Tale” D. give a main idea of the story of “Shark Tale” 60. The underlined part“a nobody”can be best replaced by A. a person no one can compete with C. a person of no importance . B. a person no one likes D. a person of no interest
D I had an experience once which taught me something about the ways people make a bad situation worse by blaming themselves. One January, I officiated (主持) at two funerals for two elderly women. Both died a natural death. At the first home, the son of the deceased (已故的)woman said, “If only I had sent my mother to Florida and gotten her out of this cold and snow, she would be alive today. It's my fault that she died. ” At the second home, the son said, “If only I hadn't insisted on her going to Florida, she would be alive today. That long airplane ride was more than she could take. It's my fault. ” When things don't turn out as we would lik e them to, we tend to assume that had we done things differently, the story would have had a happier ending. Any time there is a death, the survivors will feel guilty. Because the course of action they took turned out bad, they believed that the opposite course, for example, keeping Mother at home, would have turned out better. After all, how could it have turned out any worse? There seem to be two elements involved in our readiness to feel guilty. The first lies in our belief that the world makes sense there is a reason for everything that happens.
The second is the thought that we are the cause of what happens, especially the bad things that happen. The roots of this feeling may lie in our childhood. A baby comes to think that the world exists to meet his needs, and that he makes everything happen in it. He wakes up in the morning and calls the rest of the world to its tasks. He cries, and someone comes to attend to him. When he is hungry, people feed him, and when he is wet, people change him. V often, we do not completely abandon that childish thought that our wishes cause things to happen. ery 63. What is true about the two deceased elderly women? A. They both died of old age. B. They died from hard work. C. They weren't accustomed to the change in life. D. They died due to lack of care by family members. 64. People feel guilty for the deaths of their loved ones because A. they cannot find a better way to express their sorrow B. they believe that they are responsible for what has happened C. they don't know the natural course of events D. they don't know things often turn out in the opposite direction 65. The underlined part "the world makes sense" in Paragraph 3 probably means that A. everything in the world is planned in advance B. the world can be understood in different ways C. there's an explanation for everything in the world D. we have to be wise in order to understand the world 66. People have believed since early childhood that A. everybody is at their command B. life and death is an unsolved mystery C. every story should have a happy ending D. their wishes are the causes of everything that happens E The Copenhagen climate conference ended on Saturday with a global deal on climate change. The rich-poor disputes in Copenhagen that dominated the two-week climate conference and almost blocked any deal at all have almost disappeared after the summit. The Copenhagen Accord, agreed by major economies including the US and China, made a commitment to limit the rise in global temperatures to 2° and raise 100 billion US dollars annually C by 2020 to help developing countries fight climate change. However, it was a non-binding agreement. Ban Ki-moon, UN secretary-general, acknowledged that the result was “not everything we hoped for” but described it as an “essential beginning” as he brought a close to two weeks of fractious negotiations in the Danish capital. Worst hit country was satisfied with the climate deal. Just hours after the world leaders had hammered out a deal, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Has ina expressed satisfaction over a “reasonable conclusion” to the UN Climate Change Conference. “I am pleased to say that we have been successful in arriving at a reasonable conclusion,” she said, adding that “there are certain areas that would be finalized in the coming days.” “This breakthrough lays the foundation for international action in the years to come,”German Chancellor . . .
Angela Merkel told a German newspaper: ”Copenhagen is a first step toward a new world climate order, nothing more but also nothing less. Those who are only putting Copenhagen down are helping those who want to stop rather than move forward," the chancellor added. According to AFP, both China and the US, the world's largest emitters (排放户) of greenhouse gases, supported the outcome of the historic UN climate conference. “With the efforts of all parties, the summit brought about significant and positive results,” Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said in a statement, and US President Barack Obama said that this breakthrough laid “the foundation for international action in the years to come”. Indian Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh called it a “good deal” and told Hindustan Times that India had “upheld the interests of developing nat ions” and their “national sovereignty（主权）”. South Africa says Copenhagen's failure to produce a legally binding climate change agreement was unacceptable, joining a global chorus of condemnation（谴责） even though it helped draft the final accord. South Africa's environment minister said South African President Jacob Zuma had discussed with other African leaders whether the talks should be abandoned, but it was decided it would be better to continue to try to influence the talks from inside. 67. What does the Copenhagen climate conference focus on according to the passage above? A. Money raise. C. Climate change A. UN secretary-general. C. Jairam Ramesh. 69. The passage is mainly about __________ . A. the Copenhagen climate conference B. the contents of the Copenhagen Accord C. ways to deal with greenhouse gases D. various responses to the Copenhagen Accord 70. I was going to take the 200-metre race at our school swimming pool. Was I ready? Was I prepared? At first, the headmaster gave a speech at eight o’clock. He encouraged us all to do well. Five teams took part in each event. The first event was the 100-metre freestyle, and my team won! Unfortunately, one of the other swimmers got a pain in her left leg during the race. She stopped swimming and shouted for help. A teacher jumped into the pool and brought her back. Luckily, she was fine. At about ten past nine, it was time for my event---- the 200-metre freestyle. I walked to the edge of the pool and waited for the starter to fire his gun. I heard him say “On your marks! Get set! Go!” and we jumped in. However, a swimmer dived into the pool too early. We had to start again. I was in the lead for the first 150 metres, but another swimmer swam past me. I won the medal for the second place, but I was sad. My team came second, with 47 points. The team which won scored 53 points. Right now, I’m tired out. It’s been a long day and I’m going to go to sleep.
