Homework Good morning ladies and gentlemen. My number is X. It’s my great honor to stand here to share my teaching thoughts with all of you. Today my subject is topic1 Plants and animals are important to us of Unit 4 Our world? I will analyze this section from six parts. They are analysis of the teaching material, the students, the teaching objectives, the teaching methods, the learning strategies and the teaching procedure. Now let’s come to Part one: Analysis of the teaching material. 1. Position and function: Topic 1 of unit 4:Our World comes from the book republished by Hunan Education Press which aims at grade 8’ s students revised according to the new curriculum standard . This lesson refers to nature. Topic 1 focused on comparative and
superlative degrees of adjectives. It provides students with more practical use of the target language how to talk about animals, how to describe plants and animals. It is closely connected with the topic 2 and lays a good basis for the whole unit. Teaching objectives:
According to the National English Curriculum, I made the teaching objectives as follows: Aim of knowledge: In this unit, Ss will learn to talk about animals. To do this, Ss have to master the following key vocabulary, like bigger, biggest, stronger, strongest, more, more than, besides, they should master these sentence patterns. Sentenses patterns 1)Which kind of animals do you like better/best? 2) It’s more…than.. 3) It’s the most of… Aim of ability: Based on New Curriculum, besides knowledge, we should also develop learners’ language skills through communicative practice. In This unit, Master comparative and superlative degree of adjectives and Enable students to talk about animals situations naturally is the aim of ability. Aim of emotions: ? . In this unit, I’ll help my Ss plants and animals. ? Encourage them to love them. Enhance the students’ awareness of
Key points: Now let’s come to the key points, the focus in this unit is enable Ss to :
use the vocabulary and useful sentences patterns to share their ideas about animals. Difficult points: It’s relatively easy for students to master the key vocabulary and sentence patterns, but how to use them is difficult. So, in my teaching, I’ll organize situational practice to make Ss learn to use them freely. 2 Analysis of the students 1. Studens of their age are very active. They have strong thirst for knowledge and like to be challenged 2. But some of them are not confident speaking English because they are afraid of making mistakes. So, one of my teaching task is to guide my Ss to open their mouth and speak English. 3 Analysis of the teaching method
In this lesson I will mainly use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT). The ultimate goal of language teaching is to enable Ss to use the language in life when necessary. Thus we should teach the language in the way it is used in the real life. Activities which invole real communication and meaningful tasks will promote language learning. This is why I mainly use CLT and TBLT method in my teaching, besides I also combine the traditional PPP method with the previous two methods together. And I will use pictures, PPT, video and
tape recorder to aid my teaching.
Students should be the centre of classroom English learning, so I will use the following student groupings-individual study, group study and whole class study.
4. Analysis of the learning strategies
1) Develop two listening strategies- predicting and listening for the details.
2) Develop the strategy to solve problems through cooperation. 5. Analysis of the teaching procedures Next, I’ll talk about my teaching procedures in details. I design five steps for my teaching. （读出以下各大步骤名） Step 1 lead-in ( 5 minutes) Step 2 presentation (15 minutes) Step 3 Practice (12 minutes) Step4 Step 5 Production (8 minutes) Summary and homework (5 minutes)
lead-in ( 5 minutes)
1. I will let my students concentrated on the plants in our school and animals in their daily life. Then I will show a video on the screen in order to let ss know plants and animals is equal to human beings. They have emotions just like our human being.
After provoked their curiosity, I will start our lesson. This step mainly gives students more exposure to the language environment. The colorful and interesting video will attracts the students’ attention and let them immediately enter the atmosphere of English class，what’s more it helps students make preparation for the study of this lesson. Step 2. presentation (15-minutes) Then we come to step 2----- presentaion. First, I will ask them to come up with some kinds of animals which are ordinary in our daily life. Then I will show four pictures. And ask students to discuss their difference in shape, so that I can introduce the points we are going to learn later. Like, the dog is bigger than the cat. The dog is biggest of all. Then I will show the 2 sentences on the screen. I will lead Ss to read aloud the sentences for 3 times. Then I’ll show same pictures but in different order and ask Ss try to use the model sentence to describe them. 3. In the end, I will show the grammar focus on the screen. These are the important language points of this class. 此处开始在黑板上板书、边说 边写
In this step, I use pictures to stimulate Ss’s learning interests, and present the useful sentence patterns
Step 3 Practice (12 minutes) Having learned the comparative and superlative degrees of adjective. Now Ss have a chance to practice the sentences to fufill different tasks, such as dicussing, listening, and group survey and writing. The first task is discussing. I will give four pictures of animal, then let them discuss in group and use comparative and superlative degree to describe them. It’s a attracting part. The second task is listening. Pre- listening Show Ss the picture and let Ss know what we are going to listening While- listening Then, I’ll play the tape for the first time , ask Ss to listen and write why wangwei like countryside. Then, I’ll play the tape for the second time, and ask Ss to check answer The second listening task helps Ss to listen for specific information. The listening activity aims to develop Ss’ listening ability by guiding them to use guessing strategy and detailed listening strategy . The third task is role play. Let ss play different kinds of animal and find their advantages. It can better help them master the langue structure. These activities combine listening, speaking, reading and writing practice together. It also helps students to develop the ability to solve problems through cooperation.
Step4 Production(8 mins) Now let’s come to step 4 production First, I will ask the whole class to work in groups. I’ll ask the group members to work together to play a kind of animal they like and tell us reasons. The best group can get a box of candy as prize. This activity put Ss into practical situation, it help them develop the quality to work with others . Step 5 Summary and homework (5 minutes) At the end of class, I will ask Ss to think about what we have learned in this period, and then I will choose some of them to make a short conclusion. Later I will summarize the main contents of this lesson. And let them sing a tongue twister. This will give Ss a holistic impression and help Ss cultivate a good learning strategy---self-examination. This is my blackboard design: I will write the key words on the left and put the sentence structure on the right. In order to enchant ss’ understand of our class. I will ask them to write a short passage about their favorite animal. All these aim to improve my teaching and Ss’ learning effects. This is all about my analysis of Topic1 of unit4.
