Without taking time to reflect,I answered, "Because someday I might say something that might make a difference in someone's life. "Even though l was sincere，that wasn’t a very good answer and my student misunderstood it． “Let me get this straight,"he said. "You went to college for four years so you could come here every day because you have the hope that someday you might say something that will
influencesomeone?"He shook his head as if l were crazy and walked away looking confused. I'm one of those people who look back and wish they had said something smart or witty,or swift. Even though that particular student might no longer wonder why I teach, there are days when l wonder. On those days, I remind myself of the real reasons I teach: It's in my blood. My mother was my most influential teacher, and she was a 6th grade reading teacher until her death in 1990. She instilled ( 遂渐灌输 ) in me a love of reading and the knowledge that education opens doors. Teaching is a way to make a difference. If you throw a stone in a pond, the ripples go on and on until they reach the shore. You can't have ripples without a"stone". Good teachers throw stones that make a positive difference, and that’s what I strive to do. I genuinely love teenagers. I want to share with others what I know and what I have learned through the years. Life is full of ups and downs, and if I can help students avoid some potholes(境洼：) on the road of life, I want to do so. If they'll allow me to celebrate their victories with them, I want to,too. Teaching isn't for everyone, but I know I made the right career choice. 21. Why did the student continue to ask the question about the writer's being a teacher? A. Because he thought her answer was unbelievable. B. Because the writer was insincere. C. Because the student was naughty. D. Because the answer was difficult to under-stand. 22. According to the text, which of the following is NOT true? A. The writer’s mother has the greatest influence on her. B. The writer’s answer made the student confused. C. In the writer’s opinion, some people in the world are unfit to teach. D. The writer annoyed the student who asked the question. 23. We can infer from the text that______ A. the writer is a good teacher in school B. the writer often plays with her students beside a pond C. the writer devotes herself to teaching and her students D. the writer often accompanies the students on their way home 24. What's the best title of the text? A. A Student's Silly Question B. A Good Teacher Who Likes Students C. A Confused Student D. The Reason Why I Teach B As I was coming into middle school, Grade 6, Iwas really excited because my friend Jennifer wasgoing to be in the same school as me! At first, things were great. She introduced me to her friendAmy and we had lots of fun together. Then thingsstarted to change. Jennifer had a very strong controldesire. I couldn't make new friends, because shewould think that I was mad at her and Amy if Ihung out with other people. So I didn't make newfriends, and pretty soon being Jennifer's friendwas a struggle. Most of the time we gossiped（说闲话）about people, and I soon realized that nobody was
good enough for Jennifer. After months of livingthrough school this way, I had really changed. I was moody (易怒的), depressed, lonely, and I didn't smile much. I spent lots of days trying not to cry, but I felt left out. Finally, near the very end of the school year, I stopped sitting with Jennifer at lunch and Istopped waiting for her after class. Jennifer quicklyannounced that I was mad at her. Our friendshipfell to pieces. It was tough at first, but soon I found a lot of girlswho were the sweetest and friendliest people in the world. I'm in Grade 7 now, and I have tons offriends. They support me when I am sad, and Isupport them when they are in trouble. We havefun and happy times together and I love them allto bits. It amazes me how easy our friendship is. There's no struggling to be on top. We're all equal. I smile all the time now and I never feel lonely. I wish Jennifer could understand that I still wantto be friends with her, but I can't limit myself toone friendship. Maybe one day she'll look backat what happened and she'll change, but even though I lost a friend, I am a happier person. 25. Which word can be used to describe Jennifer? A. Proud. B. Bossy. C. Moody. D. Friendless. 26. After months in Grade 6, the author _____ . A. felt unwelcome B. broke with Jennifer C. often cried in school D. didn't feellonely any more 27. The underlined words "to bits" in Paragraph 4probably mean "". A. by and by B. very much C. little by little D. into small pieces 28. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. The author regrets losing a friend. B. The author misses the days together with Jennifer. C. The author is happy because Jennifer will change. D. The author is happier because she has more friends now. C One of Obama's Speeches to American Students Over the past few weeks, Michelle and I have been getting Sasha and Malia ready for school. And they're excited about it.I'll bet they had the same feelings that you do----you're a little sad to see the summer go,but you're also excited about the possibilities of a new year. Thepossibilities of building new friendships and strengthening old ones,of joining a school club,or trying out for a team. The possibilities of growing into a better student and a better person and making not just your family proud but making yourself proud. But I know some of you may also be a little nervous about starting a new school year. Maybe you're making the jump from elementary to middle school,or from middle school to high school, and you're worried about what that's going to be like. Maybe you're starting a new school. You're not sure how you'll like it,trying to figure out how you're going to fit in. But I came here to tell all of you that nobody gets to write your destiny but you. Your future is in your hands. Your life is what you make of it.And nothing ---absolutely nothing--- is beyond your reach, so long as you're willing to dream big,so long as you're willing to work hard. So long as you're willing to stay focused on your education, there is not a single thing that any of you cannot
accomplish, not a single thing.I believe that. And that last part is absolutely essential, that part about really working hard in school, because an education has never been more important than it is today. I'm sure there are going to be times in the months ahead when you're staying up late doing your homework or cramming for a test,or you're dragging yourself out of bed on a rainy morning and you're thinking,oh,boy, I wish maybe it was a snow day. But let me tell you, what you're doing is worth it.There is nothing more important than what you're doing right now. Nothing is going to have as great an impact on your success in life as your education, how you're doing in school. 29 .What makes Sasha and Malia feel excited about their high school? A. Seeing the summer vocation go B. The possibilities of meeting old friends. C. The possibilities of making progress D. The possibilities of making only their parents proud 30.What’s the meaning of the underlined word in the third paragraph? A. book B. luck C. chance D .future 31. What is Obama’s advice toAmerican students in high school? A.It is not important to work hard in high school. B. Education has little influence on their success in life. C. Students have to work hard to achieve success. D. Students shouldn’t stay up to do homework.

参考范文 I am a student from Xinjin Middle School. I have learned that you are in need of people to speak for animals.1 was so excited and eager to take part in the activity. The reason why I want to take part in the activity is that I really love and care for animals．Each time I see someone hurting animals, I will try to stop the cruel practice. If I have the honor to be given the chance to speak for a kind of animal, I would like to speak for the elephants. As we all know, elephants are badly hunted for their valuable teeth. The number of elephants is getting smaller and smaller day by day and it's high time that we did something for the lovely animal． Please do consider my application not just for me but for the poor animals. I would appreciate it if you give me the chance. Given the chance，I will spare no effort to perform my duty well. I am looking forward to your reply. Many thanks.
