I. Teaching Material Analysis
? This is the first module in Book 1
which comes from Foreign Language Teaching and Reseach Press. Compareed with the SEFC, the new press focus on widening the students horizon and aims to improve the students communicative abilitiy. Reading comprehension plays an important role in the language input, it can be helpful for the writing and speaking. ? The basic topic of the text is a diary about Likang’s thoughts about his senior high. He writes down what he sees and hears, and finds the main differences between his junior high and senior high, such as the teachers, classroom, English class, classmates and so on. This text will enable the students to master how to use skimming and scanning to do with reading comprehension.

Students should master how to read and how to make full use of the reading skills to make an effective reading . (1) Help the students to understand the text well. (2) Help the students to improve their reading ability.

Besides benefiting some practical language kowledge from the text , the students should learn what to do with the new environment.This text is a good material to teach the students how to make it. ? ? Skimming :skimming means reading quickly to get the main ideal of the text or the topic sentence of a paragraph. By skimming, we get the topic sentence through fast reading .
? Scanning means to read carefully to find specific information.In reading, we must find the detailed information, such as scan figures, train schedules, time-tables, phone numbers, etc. So, we have to practise the useful reading ability through careful reading to find the answers to the five questions in class.In addition, these five questions lead to furtuer understanding of the text.
? writing a letter to your former English teacher 1.Reading comprehension can be the language input which provide the information for speaking and writing. 2.To povide the practical materials for their better writing. 3. Practise writing through the form of letter to his or her previous English teacher which would be sent out finally. This must attract them finish the writing.
