【高考领航】2015届高三英语(人教版)一轮练习:必修1-Unit 4 课时训练4]

Ⅰ.阅读理解 A TAPPING( 窃 听 )phones is probably one of the most common techniques in spy( 谍 战)movies. But when it takes place in real life with the world's top leaders as victims(受害

者), it is a story much more thrilling than any film. The drama started when documents(文件)were leaked(泄露)by Edward Snowden, the former CIA employee(雇员)and National Security Agency(NSA) contractor(订约人).According to The Guardian , the documents revealed that the phone conversations of 35 world leaders were monitored by the NSA. The NSA encourages senior officials in its “customer” departments, such as the White House,to give the NSA their rolodexes(通讯录).The agency can then add the phones of leading foreign politicians to their target lists. The NSA has also been operating 80 special collection services around the world, according to German magazine Der Spiegel. Needless to say,US President Barack Obama has been busy taking calls from European leaders to talk about these issues. French President Francois Hollande is one such leader. He is complaining about the document showing that US intelligence agencies gathered more than 70 million pieces of data from phone communications in France in just 30 days, according to AFP. Another is German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She angrily called Obama to make sure that her cell phone was not tapped. The White House press secretary Jay Carney said the US “is not monitoring and will not monitor” Merkel's communications. But German officials pointed out that the US did not deny monitoring the phone in the past. So why has the US been spying on its allies(盟友)?According to Jeffrey Richelson, author of the book The US Intelligence Community,it's because the countries don't have identical(同样 的)interests.“There are very few allies that are so close that there's no point in collecting intelligence,” said Richelson. China has not been spared from US monitoring, either, according to Der Spiegel.US listening posts(监听站)have been built in many cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hong Kong and Taipei. “Countries like China and Russia, who may fall in the category of an American ‘rival(对

手)’,can only imagine the extent(程度)of US tapping,” noted China Daily. Calling cybersecurity( 网络安全 )“a matter of sovereignty( 主权 )”, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China will take necessary measures to safeguard information security,China Daily reported on Oct 31. 1.Which following is true according to the passage? C.US intelligence agencies gathered more than 70 million pieces of data from phone communications in Germany. D.German Chancellor Angela Merkel angrily called Obama for her cell phone was tapped. 2.The underlined word “spared” in the 10th paragraph probably means________. A.intended C.escaped B.unoccupied D.included

3.What's the author's attitude towards US monitoring the phone? A.He supports it. B.He doubts it. C.He argues against it. D.He is neutral about it. 4.What could be the best title for the passage? A.Spy on the world B.Cybersecurity is a matter of sovereignty C.Technigues in spy movies D.The US Intelligence Community B (2014· 南京高三模拟)Once when I was six years old,I saw an amazing picture in a book called True Stories from Nature about the primeval forest. It was a picture of a boa constrictor (大 蟒蛇)in the act of swallowing an animal. In the book it said,“Boa constrictors swallow their prey wholly without chewing it.After that they are not able to move and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion.” I thought deeply then over the adventures of the jungle. And after some work with a colored pencil,I succeeded in making my first drawing,my Drawing Number One.I showed my work to the grownups and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered , “Frighten? Why should anyone be frightened by a hat?” My drawing was not a picture of a hat.It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. But since the grownups were not able to understand it,I made another drawing.I drew

the inside of the boa constrictor so that the grownups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. That's my Drawing Number Two. The grownups' response this time was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors whether from the inside or the outside and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. That is why at the age of six I gave up the dream that I might have been a great painter.I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number One and Drawing Number Two.Grownups never understand anything by themselves and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another profession and learned to pilot airplanes.I have flown a little over all parts of the world, and it is true that geography has been very useful to me.At a glance,I can distinguish China from Arizona. If one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is valuable. In the course of this life,I have had lots of chances to meet with a great many people. And that hasn't much improved my opinion of them.Whenever I met one of them who seemed to me at all clearsighted, I tried showing him my Drawing Number One which I have always kept.I would try to find out if this was a person of true understanding. But whoever it was,he or she would always say: That is a hat. Then I would never talk to that person about boa constrictors or primeval forests or stars.I would bring myself down to his level.I would talk to him about bridge, golf, politics and neckties. And the grownups would be greatly pleased to have met such an intelligent man. 5.The writer drew his first picture in order to________. A.show the grownups what the book was about B.frighten the grownups trying to enter the forest C.remind himself of the adventures of the jungle D.illustrate a boa constrictor's act of digesting an animal 6.How did the writer understand the grownups' response to his second drawing? A.He was actually only good at academic study. B.It was a waste of time for him to keep on drawing. C.He had difficulty in communicating with the adults. D.He was good at anything but geography. 7.The underlined word “disheartened” in Paragraph 4 could most probably be replaced by “________”. A.discouraged C.discriminated B.dissatisfied D.disturbed

8.Which of the following statements is true? A.The writer could have become a pilot if encouraged when young.

B.The writer finally changed his opinion of grownups. C.The writer has been showing his two pictures to others ever since. D.The writer felt nobody could have really understood him. Ⅱ.七选五补缺题 (2013· 课标Ⅱ卷) Public Speaking Training ●Get a coach __1__,so get help.Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that's right for you. ●Focus on positives Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well.Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren't doing well.__2__, so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn't do. ●__3__ If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it's going to give you lots of dos and don'ts,walk away!Your brain is so full of what you're going to be talking about.__4__.As far as we're concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking.Your audience can be your friends. ●You are a special person not a clone Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits.__5__.Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you're not. A.You aren't like anybody else B.You already do lots of things well C.Turn your back on too many rules D.Check the rules about dos and don'ts E.Whatever the presentation, public speaking is tough F.The one thing you don't want is for them to fall asleep G.So trying to force a whole set of rules into it will just make things worse Ⅲ.短文改错 (2013· 课标Ⅱ卷)The book I'm reading of talks about afternoon tea in Britain. It is said to have started in the early 1800's.Have tea in the late afternoon provides a bridge between lunch and dinner, that might not be served until 8 o'clock at night. This custom soon becomes another meal of

day.Interesting,it had a connection by the British porcelain (瓷器)industry.Tea in China was traditionally drank from cups without handles. When tea got popular in Britain, there was a crying need for good cup with handles to suit British habits. This made for the grow in the porcelain industry.

幅画的失败打击了作者,故 dishearten 在此可理解为“使失去信心,使泄气”。 故选 A 项。 8.选 D 正误判断题。根据最后一段中的“I would try to find out if this was a person of true understanding.But whoever it was,he or she would always say:That is a hat.”

The book I'm reading of ①去掉of talks about afternoon tea in Britain.It is said to
