It’s bad luck that you have lost your favourite teacher. But, if she is still in your school, nothing can stop you going to see her. When she isn’t busy, ask her if she minds having a quick chat. You can then tell her she was your favourite teacher. Everyone is happy to know they are liked! If she has left the school, it will be more difficult to meet her. It will be hard, but remember people always come and go in our lives. We can’t rely on them being with us all the time. You may be sad to say goodbye to her, but we can remember and learn from her. Think of her best qualities. You could also try looking for similar qualities in your other teachers. Study hard and give your new teacher a chance. In time, you might start to see that he or she has different qualities to learn from. Finally, you can not completely (entirely) rely on (depend on) other people getting you through your studies, or even your life. Editor 48. Tian Yan ______. A. completely by their favourite teachers B. completely by their favourite classmates C. mainly by their parents D. mainly by themselves D As a young adult, Noah Webster was a teacher. At this time, the colonies were fighting for independence from Britain. Yet the books that American children used in school all came from Britain. The books were all about British people and British places. Webster wanted books that would mean more to American children. So he wrote three books that used American examples --- a grammar book, a spelling book, and a reader. These books were very popular, and millions of them were sold. Webster was interested in changing the spellings of words. He wanted words to be spelled the way they were pronounced. For example, he thought the word “head” should be spelled “hed”, and the word “laugh” should be spelled “laf”. People liked Webster’s suggestions. However, few words were actually changed. One group of words that were changed were words in which an unpronounced “u” followed an “o”. That is why Americans write “color” and “labor”, and the British write “colour” and “labour”. With the money he made from his books, Webster was able to write. It was the first American English dictionary, published in 1828.Webster’s dictionary had over 70000 words and gave the meaning and origin of each. To this day. Webster’s work is the example that most dictionaries of American English follow. 52. Which of the following statements is right? A. Noah Webster had to borrow books from Britain when he was a student. B. Noah Webster had his own government when he was very young. C. When Noah Webster taught at schools, he wrote some story books.

D. As a teacher, Noah Webster wasn’t satisfied with the books he used. 53. The third paragraph mainly tells us that _____. A .Webster spoke English in a different way B. American people didn’t write English as exactly as English people did C. Webster was good at correcting mistakes in textbooks D. American people didn’t like speaking English 54. In American history, Noah Webster is famous for _____. A .his teaching methods B .his dictionary C .his fighting for freedom D .learning foreign languages 55. The last sentence of this passage means ______. A .most dictionaries in the world are the copies of Webster’s B .most dictionaries in American English have the characteristics of Webster’s C .most American people followed Webster’s advice on writing D .Webster’s dictionary is the only one used in the United States E Betty and Harold have been married for years. But one thing still puzzles (困扰) old Harold. How is it that he can leave Betty and her friend Joan sitting on the sofa, talking, go out to a ballgame, come back three and a half hours later, and they’re still sitting on the sofa? Talking? What in the world, Harold wonders, do they have to talk about? Betty shrugs, Talk? We’re friends. Researching this result called friendship, psychologist (心理学家)Lillian Rubin spent two years interviewing more than two hundred women and men. No matter what their age, their job, their sex, the results were completely clear: women have more friendships than men, and the difference in the content and the quality of those friendships is “marked and unmistakable.” More than two-thirds of the single men Rubin interviewed would not name a best friend. Those who could were likely to name a woman. Yet three-quarters of the single women had no problem naming a best friend, and almost always it was a woman. More married men than women named their wife/husband as a best friend, most trusted person, or the one they would turn to in time of emotional distress (感情危机) “Most women, ”says Rubin, “identified (认定) at least one, usually more, trusted friends to whom they could turn in a trouble moment, and they spoke openly about the importance of these relationships in their lives.” “In general,” writes Rubin in her new book, “women’s friendships with each other rest on shared emotions and support, but men’s relationships are marked by shared activities.” For the most part, Rubin says, interactions (交往) between men are emotionally controlled—a good fit with the social requirements of “manly behavior.” “Even when a man is said to be a best friend,” Rubin writes, “the two share little about their innermost feelings. Whereas a woman’s closest female friend might be the first to tell her to leave a failing marriage, it wasn’t unusual to hear a man say he didn’t know his friend’s marriage was in serious trouble until he appeared one night asking if he could sleep on a sofa.” 56. What old Harold cannot understand or explain is the fact that__________. A. he is treated as an outsider rather than a husband B. women have so much to share C. women show little interest in ballgames

D. he finds his wife difficult to talk to 57. Rubin’s study shows that for emotional support a married woman is more likely to turn to__. A. a male friend B. a female friend C. her parents D. her husband 58. According to the text, which type of behavior is NOT expected of a man by society? A. Ending his marriage without good reason. B. Spending too much time with his friends. C. Complaining about his marriage trouble. D. Going out to ballgames too often. 59. Which of the following statements is best supported by the last paragraph? A. Men keep their innermost feelings to themselves. B. Women are more serious than men about marriage. C. Men often take sudden action to end their marriage. D. Women depend on others in making decisions. 60. The research done by psychologist Rubin centers around__________. A. happy and successful marriages B. friendships of men and women C. emotional problems in marriage D. interactions between men and women

第二节 信息匹配 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分, 满分 10 分) 请阅读下列文章和相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。请在答题卡上将对应题号的相应 选项字母涂黑。首先,请阅读以下有关“怎样才能学好英语”的内容: How to Learn English A. Motivation for learning English What is necessary to learn English well? You have to change your life a little — do crazy things like talking to yourself in English or spending your evening reading a dictionary. In order to do these things, and do them regularly, you have to enjoy doing them. If you are like most learners and don't feel like doing these things, you will have to work on your motivation(interest). B. Getting a good English dictionary You need a good English dictionary. An English dictionary is the most important thing that you will need when learning English. Successful English learners use their dictionaries all the time — that's how they learn to use new words. C. Learn English without mistakes You can damage your English by writing and speaking. Your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation can get worse because of practice. When you speak or write and you make mistakes, you teach yourself bad habits. These bad habits may be difficult to eliminate(erase). The solution(way out) is simple: Avoid mistakes! Try to say or write only correct English sentences. (avoid 避免) D. Learning English pronunciation Why should you study English pronunciation? Because pronunciation is the biggest thing that people notice about your English. You should study it even if you think you can already communicate in English. E. Input - getting English into your head What is input and why you need it? Input is a short word for "English sentences that you read or listen to". When you read and listen to English sentences, parts of the sentences stay in your memory, which lets you build similar sentences yourself. Input——not speaking, writing or grammar tests——is what you need to use English grammar and vocabulary like a native speaker. F. SuperMemo and learning English What is SuperMemory and what can it give you? It is an

advanced computer program which can help you build an impressive knowledge of English. How does it work? You add some knowledge to SuperMemo (e.g. 100 English words), and every day you review part of the knowledge (e.g. 5 words). In the process, SuperMemo collects information about your memory. 以下是五位同学对各种英语学习方法的理解与阐述,请将以下五位同学的阐述与上面 How to Learn English 文段中的相关学习方法进行匹配: Jack Anderson Study pronunciation (all the English sounds and at least basic English words) before you open your mouth. His daughter just had a baby and he was visiting her, I think. Text 3 W: Sorry, I’m late for my flight and I’m in a hurry. Where is Gate A21? M: Go downstairs and turn left, walk straight and you’ll see it. Text 4 M: Have you been working out, Helen? You look so full of energy these days. W: Yeah, as a matter of fact, I’ve been running every morning for two months now. Text 5 M: I’m afraid you can’t leave your car there, miss. W: But I shall only be a few minutes. I’m just going in to pick up a package. M: I’m afraid not, miss. Parking is not allowed here. You can park in the next street. It’s usually quiet there. Text 6 M: Shopping for furniture can be such a pain! It’s so crowded here! W: Let’s write down the prices first. A sofa is 4000; bookshelves are 2500 each; a bed is 1200; and a dining table and chairs are 6000 a set. I think we can get the sofa in Ikea, the bed, and the dining table and chairs from Design 2000. M: That’s good. Wait a minute. One more thing, we need a lamp for our study, remember? I think we can get a nice one from Pricerite for about $150. Let me see, we don’t need a bedside table anymore. Text 7 W: Here’s your bill, sir. M: Oh, thank you. Let’s have a look at it now. Goodness, it’s a lot more than I expected. W: Would you like me to explain anything, sir? M: Just a moment. We must have talked for a long time. And these ones, “L” for $32.40, and here’s another, $9.50. What are they for? Text 8 M: It’s your 50th birthday. You decide. W: I’d like you to organize a surprise party for me. M: Sylvia, I know what you want. But a surprise party is impossible. Don’t you remember when I tried to organize a surprise party for your 40th? You found out right away. W: Don’t remind me. I was so disappointed. M: I remembered to get everything ready. But I just forgot to tell people that it was supposed to be a surprise. But the party wasn’t disappointing. I mean, it wasn’t a surprise, but it was great. W: Well, I really don’t care what we do. Do whatever you want. M: Oh, come on, Sylvia. Let’s plan something interesting. We could have a swimming party, or

a covered dish supper. It could be fun. W: Let’s just go out to dinner with a few friends. M: But why? W: Because it’s easy. I don’t want to have to do all the planning. Text 9 W: What are some of the problems of doing a part?time job as a college student? M: Schoolwork suffers. Because I don’t have as much time to study as when I didn’t have a part-time job. I have had to give up things I enjoy, like sleep and football. I can’t get into the social life because I have to work right after class. Some of my friends have stopped calling me. I also miss TV. W: What do you do in a day? M: I get up at 7:00 to make an 8:00 a.m. class. I have classes till 1:30. And then, I drive to the supermarket where I work. I work till 7:00 p.m. And then I drive home and eat dinner. After I take a shower and rest for a half hour, it’s about nine. This gives me only a couple of hours to study. My eyes start to close well before I go to bed at eleven. Text 10 But before we end this hour’s Morning News program, the national weather report again. Today, showers will become heavy for a time particularly over northern and eastern parts of England. Western Scotland may see a relatively long period of rain. In other places, fewer showers and more in the way of sunshine especially this afternoon. Tonight, most of the showers will die out with all places dry by morning with some good clear spells. Much of the UK, Monday, will be dry, bright and reasonably warm. However, northern Ireland and western Scotland will turn cloudier and a little windy with some rain later. Now rounding off this hour’s weather report, showers today, mostly fine tomorrow. 56. B 这是一个细节题。从第一段可知,使 Harold 迷茫不解的是当他出外打球三个半小时后, 发现妻子和她的朋友仍然坐在沙发上交谈。他不明白为什么女人会有那么多互相分享的东西。 57.
