第二节 阅读理解(共 15 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 30 分) 阅读下列短文 ,从每题所给的四个选项 (A 、B 、C 在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 A “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Similarly, if we drink a little more water every day, we may find that we need to go to the doctor a lot less often. A healthy diet is made up of water and a great many different kinds of foods. We know that healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and fish, are important as they provide us with energy and fiber, without giving us too much fat and sugar. But why is water important? The human body needs water to survive. Water is important as it carries poisons and waste out of our bodies. However, doctors advise us to drink plenty of water, 和 D )中选出最佳选项 ,并

much more than the small amount we need to stay alive. Some doctors believe that water is important for our health in all kinds of ways. They believe that a great many illnesses and health problems appear as a result of dehydration--a lack(缺少) of water in the body. Most people are dehydrated at least some of time, although they probably don’t know it. It is surprising to learn that if we feel thirsty, we are already in the first stages of dehydration. In fact, we are advised to drink water before we feel thirsty. These doctors think that health problems such as headaches, high blood pressure and asthma could be helped if people drink more water. They also believe that drinking more water can help people who are overweight. Water contains no calories so it will not make us put on weight. If we drink water, we will probably drink less sugary soft drinks such as Coca-cola. Doctors also believe that drinking more water may stop people from overeating. They say that many people think that they are hungry when they are, in fact, thirsty. Doctors suggest, therefore, that we eat less food and drink more water. There are still many health problems that cannot be solved by drinking water, so we should not stop going to seeing the doctor completely. However, if we make a decision to drink water every day, we may find that we need to go to the doctor a lot less often. 21.We need _____for a healthy diet. A. fibre C. water B. Water and different foods D. food

A. it makes them hungry B. they think they are thirsty and eat less

Some healthy problems start because of a lack of water. C. Drinking more water may stop people from overeating. D. Fruit provides us with energy and fibre.

When I was 12, all I wanted was a signet (图章) ring. They were the "in" thing and it seemed every girl except me had one. On my 13th birthday, my Mum gave me a signet ring with my initials(姓名首字母) carved into it. I was in heaven. What made it even more special was that it was about the only thing that wasn't being "replaced". We'd been burnt out in fires that swept through our area earlier that year and had lost everything—so most of the " new" stuff (东西) we got was really just to replace what we'd lost. But not my ring. My ring was new. Then, only one month later, I lost it. I took it off before bed and it was missing in the morning. I was sad and searched everywhere for it. But it seemed to have disappeared. Eventually, I gave up and stopped looking for it. And two years later, we sold the house and moved away. Years passed, and a couple of moves later, I was visiting my parents' when Mum told me that she had something for me. It wasn't my birthday, nor was it Easter or Christmas or any other gift-giving occasion. Mum noticed my questioning look. " You'll recognize this one," she said, smiling. Then she handed me a small ring box. I took it from her and opened it to find my beautiful signet ring inside. The family who had bought our house 13 years earlier had recently decided to do some redecorations, which included replacing the carpets. When they pulled the carpet up in my old bedroom, they found the ring. As it had my initials carved into it, they realized who owned the ring. They'd had it professionally cleaned up by a jeweler before sending it to my mother. And it still fits me.

In Britain in the 1890s there was a postcard “craze(热潮)”. People formed clubs and collected and exchanged postcards. Even Queen Victoria had her own private collection. When Edward was the king, the British had a cheap and good postal system. If anyone wanted to tell a friend that they were coming for tea in the afternoon, they would send a postcard in the morning. “Drop me a card” was as common then as “give me a ring” as now. In 1902 an important step was taken. The government said that half of the side that was used for the address on the postcard could be used for messages, and the whole of the other side could be used for a picture. It was then that the simple postcard, as we know now, was created. 29.In Britain in the 1890s, _______. A. people were interested in sending cards B. people were interested in playing cards C. people were interested in collecting postcards

D. people were interested in buying postcards 30.Which statement is TRUE? A. Postcards were not used in the 19th century. B. It was not until 1902 that the simple postcard as we know was created. C. As a young boy, I sometimes traveled the country roads with my dad. He was a rural mail carrier, and on Saturdays he would ask me to go with him. Driving through the countryside was always an adventure: There were animals to see, people to visit, and chocolate cookies if you knew where to stop, and Dad did. In the spring, Dad delivered boxes full of baby chickens, and when I was a boy it was such fun to stick your fingers through one of the holes of the boxes and let the baby birds peck on your fingers. On Dad's final day of work, it took him well into the evening to complete his rounds because at least one member from each family was waiting at their mailbox to thank him for his friendship and his years of service. "Two hundred and nineteen mailboxes on my route," he used to say, “and a story at every one." One lady had no mailbox, so Dad took the mail in to her every day because she was nearly blind. Once inside, he read her mail and helped her pay her bills. Mailboxes were sometimes used for things other than mail. One note left in a mailbox read, "Nat, take these eggs to Marian; she's baking a cake and doesn't have any eggs." Mailboxes might be buried in the snow, or broken, or lying on the ground, but the mail was always delivered. On cold days Dad might find one of his customers(顾 客) waiting for him with a cup of hot chocolate. A young girl wrote letters but had

no stamps, so she left a few buttons(纽扣)on the envelope in the mailbox; Dad paid for the stamps. One businessman used to leave large amounts of cash(现金)in his mailbox for Dad to take to the bank. Once, the amount came to $ 32,000. Ten years ago, when I traveled back to my hometown on the sad occasion of Dad's death, the mailboxes along the way reminded(回想) me of some of his stories. I thought I knew them all, but that wasn't the ease. As I drove home, I noticed two lamp poles(杆), one on each side of the street. When my dad was around, those poles supported wooden boxes about four feet off the ground. One box was painted green, and the other was red, and each had a long narrow hole at the top with white lettering: SANTA CLAUS, NORTH POLE. For years children had dropped letters to Santa through those holes. I made a turn at the comer and drove past the post office and across the railroad tracks to our house. Mom and I were sitting at the kitchen table when I heard footsteps. There, at the door, stood Frank Townsend, Dad's postmaster and great friend for many years. So we all sat down at the table and began to tell stories. At one point Frank looked at me with tears in his eyes. "What are we going to do about the letters this Christmas?" he asked. "The letters?" "I guess you never knew." "Knew what?" "Remember, when you were a kid and you used to put your letters to Santa in those green and red boxes on Main Street? It was your dad who answered all those letters every year. " I just sat there with tears in my eyes. It wasn't hard for me to imagine Dad sitting at the old oak table in our basement reading those letters and answering each one. I have since spoken with several of the people who received Christmas letters during their childhood, and they told me how amazed they were that Santa had known so much about their homes and families. For me, just knowing that story about my father was the gift of a lifetime. 32.It can be inferred from the passage that the writer considered his travels

with Dad as

.

Dad paid for the stamps for a young girl. C. Dad delivered some eggs to Marian. D. Santa Claus lived alone in the cold North Pole. B. Santa Claus answered all their letters every year. C. Santa Claus had unique mailboxes for the children. D. Santa Claus had so much information about their families. 36.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. The Mail B. Christmas Letters D. Memorable Travels .

One day a boy was eating a banana in the campus. After eating it up, he wanted to throw the skin into the dustbin, but it dropped outside. Although the dustbin was near/The dustbin being near, he didn’t want to take any trouble to pick it up but went away directly, thinking that someone else would clean the rubbish. The banana skin smelt bad after a while. Obviously, what the boy did shows a lack of social morality. Nowadays some people consider it of little value to observe social morality and become more selfish and indifferent. We need to take action to develop a sound system which advocates good behaviours and keep all necessary disciplines and requirements in mind, thus creating a harmonious social environment benefiting others as well as ourselves. Personally, the most effective way is that we should raise people’s awareness and act morally individually.
