As the Japanese students already know, four main islands and more than 3,000 small ones stretch from north to south for about 1,300 miles. As for the climate of the country, well, it’s hot and humid(潮湿) in summer, but it is quite cold and wet in Japan during winter. Typhoons, which are violent tropical storms, often threaten Japan during the fall. That?s, of course, during the harvest season. The population of Japan is about 110,5 million. It may seem hard to believe, but the average population density(密度) of the country is about 678 persons per square mile. About two thirds of the entire population lives in Japan?s cities. The other one third lives in the suburbs or in the countryside. No other country in southern or eastern Asia has such a large urban, or city population. Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, is the most density-populated city in the world. At last count there were more than 11.5 million people living in Tokyo. 21.. Why is Japan called an island country? The Chinese word “Shanzhai” means a small mountain village, but now it becomes an accepted name for fakes （假货） after “Shanzhai Cellphones” produced by small workshops in southern China became popular in the mainland market over the past two years. Besides “Shanzhai” has electronic products, there are “Shanzhai” movies, “Shanzhai” stars and even a “Shanzhai” Spring Festival Gala, a copy of the 25-year-old traditional show presented by CCTV on Chinese Lunar New Year’s Eve． “Shanzhai” has become a culture of its own, symbolizing anything that imitates something famous．The phenomenon has caused a public debate over whether it is healthy or sick being a copycat. In southwestern China’ s Chongqing Municipality, a “Shanzhai” version “Bird’ s Nest” woven by farmers with bamboo attracts wide attention and the “Shanzhai” version “Water Cube” is popular with tourists too．Both are copies of the famous Olympics buildings in Beijing. Xie Xizhang, a literature critic, said that taking the “Shanzhai” Gala as an example, when the traditional CCTV program becomes less and less attractive to the audience, the “Shanzhai” version appears naturally to attract people． “In spite of its poor techniques and operation, ?Shanzhai? culture meets the psychological demands of common people and could be a comfort to their minds,” Xie said. Tian Huiqun, a professor at Beijing Normal University, said that “Shanzhai” culture never copies classic things, only trendy products．In that sense, it’s like a computer virus, multiplying without meaning. Though controversial, “Shanzhai” culture is becoming a widely accepted phenomenon. To the mainstream culture, the rise of “Shanzhai” culture is a challenge as well as a motivation, said Xie．Tian said different kinds of cultures developing together is an ideal situation and it is for the public to choose. 25. The Chinese Word “Shanzhai” may have its origin in _________. A. fake cellphones B. electronic products C. Spring Festival Gala D. Olympics buildings 26. The underlined word “imitates” is closest in meaning to _______. A．steals B．copies C．advertises D．cheats 27．According to the passage, “Shanzhai” culture refers to ________. A．the action that a person imitates famous people B．anything that imitates something famous C．those similar names to famous brand D．products with poor techniques and quality 28．We can infer that the mainstream culture ________. A．will be held back by “Shanzhai” culture B．will sooner or later be replaced by “Shanzhai”culture C．may develop faster because of the challenging of “Shanzhai”culture D．thinks nothing of the challenge of “Shanzhai”culture
How to Make the Most of Your Time Time management is important in our daily life. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to accomplish all you need to do. Here are some tips that might be of some help to you.
1. Set up a plan. Go for a week at a time, and prioritize the most important ones. Include things you want to accomplish. Focus mostly on the things that are important to you. 2. Control your stress. No matter what kind of pressure mounts on you, try to keep cool. Stressing out can lead to an early breakdown, which is definitely counter-productive when you have a list of things to do. It's easier to take a 10-minute break and cool off than work all week with built up stress. 3. Shut your door. When working under a schedule, perform your important tasks with your door shut to get them done. This will ensure a better quality time to get what needs to be done. 4. Focus on one thing at a time. Forget trying to multi-task! You will lose concentration, and it will take you longer to accomplish what you set out to do. 5. Just say "no." If you are constantly interrupted, and you really don't have the time to help out, just say "no." You're only one person, and you can't save the world by yourself! 6. Stop wasting time on the phone. While talking on the phone, keep your conversations short, and to the point you'll waste much less time. 7. Be realistic. You can only do what you can do. Don't set out to accomplish the impossible. Do your best, but keep realistic expectations of yourself. 8. Relax. The most important thing is remember to take time to relax, and regroup. You need a break every now and then to keep working efficiently. Even if it's a 10-minute walk, get away from your list and get refreshed. As families today get busier and busier, it's important to your own mental health to keep things on track. Don't delay; get your life in order now. 29. What does the underlined word “prioritize” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. choose something by thinking carefully B. recognize the difference between things C. put many things in order of importance D. get rid of something that is unwanted 30. We should avoid stressing out because ____________. A. it may cause us to fail to work normally B. it may limit the speed to get things done C. we don?t have enough energy to keep working D. we are supposed to have a break while working 31. Which statement would the author agree to? A. Try multi-tasks, and we can get more done. B. It is impolite to refuse to help others at work. C. Having breaks regularly may delay our tasks. D. It is wise to be aware of what we can achieve.
As the pace of life continues to increase, we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through life, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body.? Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. In fact, it is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health.? The amount of stress a person can withstand (忍受) depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously
prime material for managerial respons ibilities; others lose heart at the first sign of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact we make choice between “flight or fight” and in more primitive days the choices made the difference between life or death. The crisis we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Since we can?t remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could) ,we need to find ways to deal with it.? 32. People are finding less and less time for relaxing themselves because ______. ? A. they regard working as their greatest enjoyment ? B. they believe that work is superior to relaxation ? C. they are becoming busier with their work than ever before D. they are traveling fast all the time ? 33. According to the author, the most important character for a good manager is his ______.? A. having control over performance ? B. knowing the art of relaxation ? C. high sense of responsibility ? D. strong will to hold out stress 34. In the last sentence of the passage, the underlined words “do so” refers to ______.? A. “expose ourselves to stress”? B. “remove stress from our lives” C. “find ways to deal with stress” ? D. “establish links between diseases and stress”? 35. According to the author, the right attitude toward stress is ______. A. to try to cope with it ? B. to avoid it C. to regard it as a vital motivation ? D. to find some relaxation ? 第二节 （共 5 小题，每小题 2 分，满分 10 分） 根据短文内容，从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项，选项中 有两项为多余选项。 Are you preparing any gifts for your friends now? 36 , but choosing a proper gift can be a big headache, because it takes a lot of time and effort to think of the right gift for someone. Some students hold the view that middle school students should do social practice. They believe social practice can help them know more about society and give them much experience. By doing so, they can greatly develop their ability and put what they have learned in books into practice. However, others think differently, believing that they are too young to fit in with the world. In addition, they say it?s a waste of time and energy. I think it is good for students to do social practice. As we spend most of the time studying in school, it is a very good chance to enrich our practical knowledge, which will in turn benefit our studies at school.
