Some time ago, I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg. I didn?t think there would be any difficulty in getting it mended , as there are a whole lot of antique (古董) shops near my home . So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception (接待) . I was quite wrong. Then man wouldn?t even look at my chair. The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and, the fourth-so I decided that my approach must be wrong. I went into the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, “Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said, “Yes, not a bad chair. How much do you want for it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. “OK,” he said, “I?ll give you twenty pounds.” “It?s got a slightly broken leg,”I said. “Yes I saw that, it?s nothing.” Everything was going according to plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.” “I?ll buy it,” I said. “What do you mean? You?ve just sold it to me,” he said. “Yes, I know but I?ve changed my mind. I?m sorry; I?ll give you twenty-seven pounds for it.” “You must be crazy,” he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair.” “You?re right,” I said. “And what would you have done if I had walked in and said, ?Would you mend this chair for me??” “I wouldn?t have
agreed to do it,” he said. “We don?t? do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. In a recently published book, I came across some exercises with interesting names such as fishbone diagrams, lotus flowers, and clustering. As I used these exercises in my classes, I noticed that students were interested. They said more and wrote more. They enjoyed expressing their ideas and sharing them in groups. They were no longer passively waiting for the bell, but actively took part in the lesson. I find that creativity (创新)can act as a way to increase participation and improve fluency (流利程度). Creativity has become a popular word in recent years. Scholar in the arts, psychology (心理学), business, education, and science are all working to get a deeper understanding of it. Robert J. Sternberg is a creativity specialist and Yale professor of psychology. He defines creativity as "the ability to produce work that is both new (original) and appropriate (applicable to the situation)". This definition is useful, as we want our students to use language in a new way, and to use it correctly and properly. Most scholars say there are two types of creativity: big “C” creativity and small “c” creativity. Big “C” creativity refers to genius level thinking that results in artistic masterpieces and scientific breakthroughs. Small “c” creativity refers to everyday level thinking that can be used in any situation. Our emphasis is on the latter. While it goes without saying that any of our students could go on to be the next Picasso or Edison, our aim is to help students produce more ideas and use language in new ways. 59. The underlined words “waiting for the bell” in the first paragraph probably mean _________. A. longing for a phone call B. hoping to have a bell C. expecting the end of the class D. wanting to speak in class 60. It can be inferred from the passage that the author thought the exercises in the book were ________. A. popular B. useful C. scientific D. creative 61. The main purpose of the passage is to _________. A. show how useful the book is B. explain what creativity is C. discuss how one can be creative D. tell what teaching aims at
When a rather dirty, poorly dressed person kneels at your feet and puts out his hands to beg for
a few coins, do you hurry on, not knowing what to do, or do you feel sad and hurriedly hand over some money? What should our attitude to beggars be? There can be no question that the world is full of terribly sad stories. It must be terrible to have no idea where our next meal is going to come from. It seems cruel not to give some money to beggars. Certainly, most of the world?s great religions (宗教) order us to be open-hearted and share what we have with those less fortunate than ourselves. But has the world changed? Maybe what was morally (道德方面) right in the old days, when one knew exactly who in the village had suffered misfortune and needed help, is no longer the best idea. Quite a few people will not give to beggars. Let us look at their arguments. First, some believe that many city beggars dress up on purpose to look pitiable and actually make a good living from begging. Giving to beggars only encourages this sort of evil (恶行). Secondly, there is the worry that the money you give will be spent on beer, wine or drugs. Thirdly, there is the opinion that there is no real excuse for begging. One might be poor, but that is no reason for losing one?s sense of pride and self-dependence. Related to this is the opinion that the problem should be dealt with by the government rather than ordinary people. Some people think beggars should go to the local government department and receive help. It is hard to come to any final conclusion; there are various cases and we must deal with them differently. A few coins can save a life in some situations, and even if the money is wasted, that does not take away the moral goodness of the giver. 62. What is mainly discussed in the passage? A. Moral deeds of people. B. Religious activities of the church. C. Moral goodness of the giver. D. Arguments on giving money to beggars. 63. What can we infer from the sentence “But has the world changed?” in the second paragraph? A. People no longer know who suffers misfortune in the village. B. Some people will not do what was morally right in the past. C. We don?t meet with those who need help any more. D. Now it is the government?s duty to help the beggars. 64. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage? A. Some people dress up to pretend to be beggars. B. Some beggars want money to help their children go to school. C. Some beggars use the money to buy drugs. D. Some beggars have no excuse for begging. 65. In the last paragraph, the writer thinks that it is hard to come to any final conclusion, Because ______. A. the cases can be so different B. there are so many beggars C. there is so much money wasted D. there are so many different arguments
第二卷（共三部分 45 分）
请认真阅读下列短文，并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。 注意：每个空格只填一个单词。请将答案写在答题卡上相应的横线上。 Teamwork is just as important in science as it is on the playing field or in the gym. Scientific investigations (调查) are almost always carried out by teams of people working together. Ideas are shared, experiences are designed, data are analyzed, and results are evaluated and shared with other investigators. Group work is necessary, and is usually more productive than working alone. Several times throughout the year you may be asked to work with one or more of your classmates. Whatever the task your group is assigned, a few rules need to be followed to ensure a productive and successful experience.
What comes first is to keep an open mind, becasue everyone?s ideas deserve consideration and each group member can make his or her own contribution. Secondly, it makes a job easier to divide the group task among all group members. Choose a role on the team that is best suited to your particular strengths. Thirdly, always work together, take turns, and encourage each other by listening, clarifying, and trusting one another. Mutual support and trust often make a great difference. Activities like investigations are most effective when done by small groups. Here are some more suggestions for effective team performance during these activities: Make sure each group member understands and agrees to the task given to him or her, and everyone knows exactly when, why and what to do; take turns doing various tasks during similar and repeated activities; be aware of where other group members are and what they are doing so as to ensure safety; be responsible for your own learning, though it is by no means unwise to compare your observations with those of other group members. When there is research to be done, divide the topic into several areas, and this can explore the issue in a very detailed way. You are encouraged to keep records of the sources used each person, which helps you trace back to the origin of the problems that may happen unexpectedly. A format for exchanging information (e.g. photocopies of notes, oral discussion, etc.) is also important, for a well-chosen method not only strengthens what you present but also makes yourself easily understood. When the time comes to make a decision and take a position on an issue, allow for the contributions of each member of the group. Most important of all, it is always wise to make decisions by compromise and agreement. After you?ve completed a task with your team, make an evaluation of the team?s effectiveness — the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges. 作文：One possible version: Top Meal of the Day A recent study shows that nearly 50 percent of the school kids in Jiangsu do not have breakfast. They tend to feel sleepy all day and unable to concentrate on the lessons, so it is hard for them to get high marks in all kinds of tests. There are some reasons for this. To begin with, some students who study late into the night choose to ignore breakfast just to have a few extra minutes in bed. Others, whose parents are too busy to prepare breakfast for them, have to buy it on the way to school with the given money. In addition, a few schoolgirls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast. In fact, the morning meal plays an important part. It can provide 30 percent of the whole day?s energy. For a creative mind and better judgment, school kids should start their day with a regular breakfast.
